AM5- We Rule The Seas! (And all islands in between)

I assume we will make a bee-line for Map-making and the Lighthouse. As England, we will start with Alphabet (Commercial) and Pottery (Expanionist). We would only need writing and Map-making. As a side we could then hit Literature. Both Writing and MM would most likely be 40 turn research so we should be able to have a pre-build up and running before we get there.

Yup, just as I was thinking meldor ;). 6gntxn, your in! :) I'm going to make the save right now and play it later today so we can get this started. The Roster is;

Amirsan- UP NOW!
Gingerbread Man- ON DECK!
Meldor-
Yaype-
6thGenTexan-

Remember, I will play 20 turns and the rest 15 untill 1000BC, after that its 10 turns to everyone.

Hello? Game still on?

Preturn- Ok, not the best looking start, but its ok. No fresh water near by and the grasslands look scarce. I moved the settler SW. I popped a hut with my worker revealing more land.

1. I settle London! I start by building a scout and mining a regular grassland. Begin researching Writing and Queued to Map Making. Min. research.

2. ...

3. ...

4. ...

5. ...

6. ... (getting kinda boreing here :))

7. Worker finished mine and began road.

8. London; Scout> Scout. Popped a goodie hut and got a warrior. Began to move it to London for some garrison.

9. ...

10. Culture began and started on BG. Brought lux. tax to 20%.

12. Popped goodie hut and got a settler!!!I moved settler up for a scouting settlement.

13. London; Scout> Granary. Lux. tax to 0% with warrior in London. Looks like were alone :(.

14. Popped goodie hut and got 25g. Settled York around the top tip of our island.

15. ...

16. ...

17. We have a pretty big island to ourselves :). Worker finished mine and began road.

18. ...

19. ...

20. Worker finished road, moved to other BG.

21. Sorry, accidently took another turn, London grew to size 3, moved lux tax up to 10%.

The map kind looks like the real world Enlgish Island, right? :)

Game!

Nice work, Amirsan. If there isn't somebody to the East of London, it looks like we are alone--and that means we definitely need to get some ships out and about. No luxuries? That's no good. Our next two cities should use those cows and the wheat on the flood plains. Beyond that, we just have to be sure to use all the space on this island. :goodjob:

The wheat is on the river almost directly NE of London. It is next to the delta of the river flowing from that mountain in the middle of the island. I *think* that it's on a flood plain... :crazyeye:

Haha. I'm an idiot. Sorry about that. :p

Ok, I got it.

To make the most of this, I will have each city have at least 9 tiles each (for the outer cities), up to 13 tiles each (for the inner core). Maybe I will try RCP for one ring, but have a tight grid for the rest (every city has 9 tiles).

P.S. by nine and 13 tiles, that includes the one the city is on.

EDIT: RCP is impossible on this island

SO far:
Turn 0:
All looks well

Turn 1 - 2900BC:
Pop goody hut - ceromonial burial
Take scouts off go-to.

Turn 2 - 2850BC:

Turn 3 - 2800BC:
York builds warrior. Start warrior, Though I doubt we will get iron.

Turn 4 - 2750BC:

Turn 5 - 2710BC:
Its official. We are alone.

More tomorrow.

Looking good. I was thinking that it would be good if we (after discovering Map Making) could make a small raid on our nearest neighbor. It would paralize them, giving us another chance to actually take them out. Remember, the victory for this game has to be Domination. If we dont have iron, hopefully we get horseys and be able to attack our nearest neighbor for the iron. ;)

I don't think not having iron at the beginning of a game is a bad thing. A large number of horsemen is just as effective, IMHO, as one of swordsmen when attacking just about anybody other than the Greeks or Carthaginians (and Romans after IW). But getting iron is definitely essential for the long run, so raiding a neighbor sounds good to me. :goodjob:

lurker's comment: You know, if you use your imagination, your island looks like England :D

good luck, I would of joined, but I have bad luck on archipelago maps (once i was stuck on my own island surrounded by ocean, and 5 of the AI had connected coasts.)

I also always use horsemen instead.

Playing the next set, stay posted.
