American Civil War II Scenario Development Thread

And I have one immediate question: Can a "princess" (treasure) unit be captured by a "naval" unit flagged with the capture flag?

The playing I have done would indicate that a ground unit is required to "escort" or "capture" a princess unit. They can be loaded in a transport though.

Take a look at the Middle Ages scenario in Conquests (play France). It illustrates the concept quite well.

Does the princess count as part of the Transport capacity?

Yes it does.

BTW if you look in the Editor for the Middle Ages scenario, the AI has been triggered to go after any stack that has one of those artifact units in it. I believe it was a setting attributed to the artifact unit itself.

When I played the scenario and moved the unit into enemy territory the AI definitely responded.

In the context of ACW/ACW2 it may be a good way to insure that the Union AI sends its navy after those ships.

How has it been triggered to go after the stack? I can't find the "trigger" for it.

I was hoping the announcement of ACW2 becoming a C3C scenario would have sparked more interest. I won't be able to work on it today, but tomorrow night or Sunday work will begin again.

Target date for beta version completion is still TBA, though I'm shooting for the end of January.

Procifica,

Your announcement does interest me! :) I have been lurking for the past several weeks and look forward to your work. I really wasn't interested in this version if it was not going to be a C3C scenario, so I am glad you got Conquests.

Have had computer problems the last couple days, but now I should be able to start working on things again.

First thing I've done is delete a few cities which I've put into ACW2, which really don't belong. Either their importance in the American Civil War doesn't warrant them being in, or they are small and insignificant during this time period.

Barricades are going in for each Fortress in the Scenario, this is more realistic, and will make Fortresses able to stop units from advancing. This also will have a significant effect on Naval combat. Major cities like Charleston or Savannah won't be able to be bombarded at will.

Working on Michigan and the Great Lakes now. The Detroit area is going to look MUCH better now, and Lake St. Clair actually exists.

Heading to work, will continue progress on the scenario on Monday and Tuesday.

I'm hoping to have Michigan and the Great Lakes done, as well as all cities east of the Mississippi River done by Tuesday.

I also want to point out that the Unit Table is going to undergo a few changes, due to some of the new perks in Conquests. As an example, a few of the ATR units no longer will be such, but instead will treat certain terrain as Grassland. Skirmishers will treat certain terrain as Grassland as well. I feel such changes will be more realistic with the historical capabilities of these units. More information will be posted tomorrow.

What Civs, if any, are there gonna be besides the Confederacy and the USA?

Could you please include Ann Abor this time? It's one of the most important towns in Michigan and gave up a huge part of it's population to the union cause.

I'm not aware of Ann Arbor having a significant population in the 1860-1865 period (its certainly under 9,500). Michigan I know gave up as a whole a large percentage of its population (relative to the rest of the country).

I'll have to do some research on its population in 1860 to see if it'll be wise to include it.

With regard to its importance though, while its important today, it may not have been in 1860. :) Grand Haven today is a small town, while in 1860 it was a major rail terminus (just to give a Michigan example).

Sims2789, I will be including the United Kingdom (Canada, Bahamas), Mexico (Matamoros, Monterrey, Juarez, maybe a few others), and Spain (Havana in Cuba). These nations will be in for trade, and to help stimulate naval building by the AI. Each nation will have at least 1 unique good (Sugar in Cuba for example).

I did some research on Ann Arbor (using the library's website, a NICE website). In 1860 their population was about 4,500 or so, and increased to almost 6,000 by 1864. Which would make it one of the largest cities in Michigan for the time period.

Lansing was under 4,000 (didn't find an exact figure, using a graph I found), Grand Rapids over 8,000, Detroit 45,000, Jackson about 5,000, and Ann Arbor as stated above about 4,500.

So, I'm going to add in Jackson and Ann Arbor for Michigan, while removing Saginaw. Both Jackson and Ann Arbor will be size 2 cities. Grand Rapids will be size 3 (instead of 2).

So, the list for Michigan will be:

Detroit
Grand Rapids
Lansing
Ann Arbor
Jackson
Niles
Grand Haven
Sault Saint Marie
Port Huron

I'm going to have to do research of this kind for other cities too...

Personal problems at home are going to be slowing down (by quite a bit) the pace at which I will be working on ACW2. That is why there hasn't been much work done the past week as well.

Just want to give everyone a heads up.

I don't know when these problems will be resolved.

On top of that, my computer has been acting up more and more (freezes up alot).

Procifica:

I was thinking about naval unit buildup for ACW2. Since Conquests can give us unit producing wonders, and with the new tech tree we can force techs to be researched, I thought we could combine this to simulate the gradual buildup of units.

This would allow the naval campaign to gradually get more intense as more units are produced but you could cap it by discontinuing the naval unit producing wonders with a fixed tech (like ironclads or advanced naval tactics). At that point the player would have to decide to allocate resources to further improve naval combat.

(I'm assuming here that somewhere on the new map you will have a SEA square so that naval units can be built along the mississippi, unlike ACW).

Just a thought.

Best to you Procifica,

Hope things turn around for you fast.
