America's flag is wrong!!!!

The eagle would have been a good choice too, but I don't mind the star. I agree with SonicX that it should have been the 13 stars in a circle formation, but that might not show up well depending on the unit size.
That'll be too silimar to the EU flag. Especially on a blue background.

Hey, why not make the US flag the middle finger?

That's what they've been doing to their allies England and Australia for the last few years. ;)

And you don't think Americans sometimes feel the same about thier allies too? :p I'm beginning to think such attitudes between allies are not uncommon thorugh History. ;)

I like the eagle, but it was a symbol of the Romans before the Americans took it.

How about the "don't tread on me" snake? That's pretty close to a middle finger...

I really don't think it matters, though, there'll likely be a mod to change the flag soon enough.

How about a modification of those 'banners' (not sure of the right word) you often see on the 4th? Red/White/Blue stripes. 1 stripe of each color.

Of course the Star has presecedence. Look at WWII fighter planes, so that may very well be thier basis... although I think there was a red dot inside the white star... can't remember.

That red dot was quickly removed after war broke out with Japan because from a distance it could be confused with the Japanese red sun symbol - or "the meatball" as US pilots apparently used to call it.

As for the eagle, not only do the Germans use it - as pointed out - and the Romans - as pointed out - so too did Saddam's Iraq and a bunch of nations and cultures around the world and throughout time. It's a cool bird, many people like it. I don't really care if the Americans monopolise it though, in Civ I usually make all their cities mine anyway, and in Civ 4 I will be flying my own flag over them ;)

Easily confused with Russian Federation, France, etc. R/W/B is a very common combo. US Army's Crossed Cannons might work well.

Perhaps, but then again, you could always place them in a 3-2-3-2-3 to get a more modern and distinctive US look to the flag ?

I think the game was going for something like this:

The sherman tank used in WWII.

LOL! The ol' Bonnie Blue flag! It appears the South won the war after all....

Ah ha! We have proof that civil wars are in the game!

Countdown until someone takes this seriously and overreacts: 3, 2, 1...

I just realized that if you mod the Americans to use red as their color, their flag will look like a communist flag.

I'm happy I don't have your problems... :p

The German flag is the well known cross, but as far as I know this has never ever been a proper flag, neither do the flags of egypt, india, incans (corrections, anyone??). So what?

The banner (I want to be precise here: The units are not supposed to carry the flag, but the banner of their civ - different thing) is to show clearly from which civ the unit is coming from and the cross for Germany does this very good (Although it brings (once again) memories from wartimes back, but wth). So does the star for the US, IMO.

And the moddability of the banners will spare you any problem...

Perhaps a white star in a blue field above vertical red & white stripes.
Like a side-ways Puerto Rican flag with 13 stripes.

If someone did that I'd use it...
