And Hotmail kicks it up a notch...

munzy - they have text ads to the right of your message, and that's all the ads you get with Gmail. Although I hate those [insert favorite word here] because Opera doesn't support their encryption, which means I have to boot up Firefox or IE to use Gmail.

The Hotmail frame is indeed annoying, which is why I never used Hotmail for subscription forums like this one. Ad Muncher has a nice filter to get rid of those stupid frames (you have to download it; it's through advanced filters).

I use hotmail for spam. :D You hardly notice the text ads.:) I wonder where my hotmail upgrade is? It's been two weeks. I am getting tired of emptying my account of spam every few days.

I think that since I have gmail that is the main reason I don't use Opera anymore.

About hotmail: I do have to admit that I like their spam filtering a lot, I get so many mails to my junk box - it is nice not having to move them there manually.

I seem to be quite lucky at avoiding spam... My google account still remains pretty much empty...

Yeah. I haven't gotten any spam in there either. My hotmail is a different story. In two days it had over 30 e mails. All spam.

What are the major upgrades I've heard about with MSN Hotmail?
MSN has rolled out free e-mail anti-virus protection to all MSN Hotmail customers worldwide, making Hotmail the only free global e-mail service to both scan and clean incoming and outgoing e-mail for viruses and worms before they can enter your inbox and risk infecting your PC.
Beginning this fall, MSN will increase free Hotmail account inbox storage by 125 times its current capacity to 250MB. Additionally, you will be able to send attachments up to 10MB.

In addition, free Hotmail customers will also receive MSN Calendar free, enabling both individual and shared calendaring with your storage upgrade.

I want my upgrade now. And people wonder why no one trust Microsoft.

Ah okay... Althought I didn't get the email until more recently and I don't really need the extra space unless I am going to be unable to check my emails for several weeks. Btw with the new upgrade will hotmail abandon their policy of closing inactive accounts or extend the deadline as otherwise the extra space probably won' be used as I think I will still delete old emails that I no longer need.

No I said I wonder if they will change it... There probably should have been a question mark...

Wondering about what?
Er, why Hotmail hasn't upgraded yet?

Does anyone have a date for when hotmail will finally update as if I'm unlucky and get 4 or 5 PBEM saves over the same period then they might not all fit and I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile to move several onto another email account.

pft, they haven't said anything. They just keep saying that its "GOING" to be upgraded. But then again, last year we heard that Half Life 2 was "GOING" to be released, so I'm not keeping my hopes up.

Dell, sorry but quick off topic question. what are PBEM's like? they any fun? I tried to play one with my mate ages ago but it never seemed to work.

If you are playing with someone in real life then playing a game of Civ mp in real time might make more sense since it should be easier to be onlie at the same time. The main benefit of PBEMs and which makes them fun is that you can have several people playing and passing the save between each other so that it is possible to have multiplayer games where deals can be formed between the human players and it allows scenarios to be played at their best. I.e. playing the Napoleonic scenario with every slot filled with a human player makes for a very interesting game.

So PBEMs can be fun and their main advantage is that they allow a large number of people to play together when they might not normally be able to.

If it's been a month and they haven't activated bigger accounts, I would move some PBEMs to different accounts, rather than have them embarassingly bounce back. Or tell your group of your alternative email account in case they do bounce.
