Shogun 2 according to this
leaked fact sheet.
Not exactly what I hoped for -I hoped for ancient china-, but at least it's asia and pre-gunpowder.

Buck Rogers in the 25th C.

This should be in the TW sub-forum.

And, well, I never played Shogun. Maybe this could be the time to redeem myself. Also, hopefully Mongols will be there in the start, with no exp. needed.

Nah, I (and I guess most people) check this forum almost daily and the Total War forum once a month.

Nice, now if CA could just not screw it up like they did with Empire and learning from their mistakes instead of making many of the same ones EVERY TIME would be nice!

Also would have been nice if they included other parts of asia, so hopefully they will have many regions in Japan like they did in Shogun one, and none of these stupid super large regions in Empire.

I think we all know that no one reads or visits that subforum

As for the title, Shogun was the only TW game I haven't tried, so I'm looking forward to it.

People do, there just isn't much to actually talk about.

At least there is a total war game not based in Europe. Shogun was pretty good and there aren't any full campaign mods for it in Rome and Medieval II.

Oh, that video is quite nice.

Naval combat also offers more variety with the addition of coastal battles. Islands can work as effective cover for your ships, while sand bars and reefs can be used as traps against an enemy fleet.

:D

Nevertheless, I learned my lesson from E:TW -- I'm not buying it until two weeks after the fan community has played it and given it their approval.

I waited until the 50% off sale on Steam. By which time they had released a few patches and had most of the promised features in the game.

but at least it's asia and pre-gunpowder.

It is pre-gunpowder in the same way that Medieval is pre-gunpowder. It is introduced in the late stages of the game.

By the end of the period, there were more guns in Japan than any other place on earth, an estimated 500,000. :)

In fact, if it sticks to history, the usage of gunpowder becomes a key element of warfare. The slightly wonky implementation of firearms in the original downplayed this a bit, but it was the proper use of firearms which allowed Oda and Toyotomi to unite Japan.

Ehh, not gonna get burned on this series again. CA are safe from my money this time. :p

At least it's pre-gunpowder for the most part. I'll just have to rush them.
Never played the original Shogun, but it's my understanding that gunpowder units played a relatively small part in the game.

Well, as I said, this was, at least in part, because of how it was implemented. If we look at history, the late game- that is, around 1560-1600- sees firearms becoming increasingly prominent, and should, eventually, become a crucial factor in the waging of war.
And, to be fair, I'm not sure if the downplaying of firearms was through error or deliberate; they did turn up pretty fully-formed in Japan, so perhaps CA felt it was a little jarring in game terms. We'll just have to wait and see how it turns out this time round.
