Animal spam is causing my game to crash

I finally figgured out why my game keeps running out of meory by the time i reach the industrial age. Somehow, every single tile of the map always ends up with a gigant stack of animals just sitting there being a nuicane and slowing down the game. And killing or using world builder to delete them doesn't help because they just respawn a few tuns later! Is there a way to fix this?

If this was April 1st. A good joke.

Unless you completely ignore animals you will only have a handful by Industrial Era.

But when posting a comment like yours, you need to give more detail.

What C2C version are you using? Any game options selected that might relate to the problem? Also if memory problems, what are the system specs? If an older system, have you tried using Viewports? etc.

The more detail you give the easier it is to pin down the problem. :)

Newest release of C2C. Sytem is good enough to run Arma 3 without crashes, so more than enough specs for civ4. I don't know what game options might affect the problem.

I deal with animals by having as manny hunters as possible run around on autohunt. They tend to ignore the gigant stacks for some reason though.

1. What do you mean by newest release? v37 Official release? Or are you using the SVN to have the latest version as we add to the mod?
2. Can not compare Arma 3 to Civ IV BtS. Yes if you can run Arma 3 you have plenty good specs. But BtS is a Single Core 32 bit game engine and so you will only use 2.98GB of your ram anyway. Graphic ram of 1 GB DDR3 or 5 is sufficient for the graphics ram. Obviously more is better.
3. Did you start this game with Size matters Option(s)? And auto hunt is not good if you are using Size Matters.
4. In the game files under Assets/XML/A_New_DawnGlobalDefines (open with Notepad ++ or Note pad) there will be this section:

Code:
    <Define>
       <DefineName>ANIMAL_SPAWN_MODIFIER</DefineName>
       <iDefineIntVal>90</iDefineIntVal>
   </Define>

If you use Notepad++ this will be at lines 453-456. Reduce the <iDefineIntVal> of 90 to 50 or 60 and see how it goes. You will need to go back into World Builder and clean out some of the stacks of Animals. After you make this adjustment, you will also need to do a Re-Calc , Ctrl/Shift/T. Let the game reprocess the new settings. After Re-Calc is finished play a couple of turns for the base modifiers to reset and normalize.

And Welcome to Caveman2Cosmos. :)

1. The official v37
2. I brought up Arma 3 because it's notorious for taking up way more system ressources than the recomended specs would suggest. I have 8 Gig RAM, Intel HD 520 graphics and a i5-6200U cpu and only get a max FPS of 20-ish on lowest sttings.
3. Guess that's what's causing the prblem with auto hunt. Any advice?
4. Thanks, hope this will aleviate some of the problems.

You will need a discrete graphic card to run any proper games since the year 2000 with an acceptable FPS.
Integrated Graphics Processor Units just aren't good enough for anything but the simplest games meant for phones/pads or browsers.

@Toffer90 The Intel HD series are pretty decent upper mid-tier graphic cards. Perfect if you don't play anything too fancy and are OK with lower graphic settings.

Faster game speeds get lots more animals and lots less time to kill them off. I'm finding this to be a problem. Might also be a quirk of the version you have. Get the SVN so we can be on the same page while looking at this issue.
They tend to ignore the gigant stacks for some reason though.
Because even if they are successful with the attack, there's enough power there that they might be attacked back in such a wave that they are defeated. The AI has to be careful of this sort of thing if they want their hunters to survive long term, which is why if you feel this is an unlikely problem in cases you see, you shouldn't be automating them to begin with. Human judgement will always be superior.

There is a tag on the animal spawn XML which is supposed to give an upper limit to the number spawned in an area. Based on the number of plots and the number of that animal.

Autohunt does not work as well as hunting by hand.

Pretty funny because I am in the Industrial Era and the turn times seem to be getting faster. I do have to agree animals are annoying at times when I am trying to do something ((I.E. Pans the camera to your hunter killing them when I am trying to manage a unit or city lol)) I am using the SVN and I find it to be FAR more stable then stock. Never had a C2D once.
