Ank13 - Monty goes into Space

We need to somehow make sure Greece doesn't get superpower status. We might need to risk an early war (read: full dogpile) so that we don't need to fight one later.

Damn, all grassland.

Well, looks like its massive forests all the way. :)

Got it. I'm not going to start a war with Greece right now, but I won't leave us totaly incapable of fighting, either.

Argh!

HOPLITES

I hate them. It looks like our only choice will be sending a few Jags to go pillage.

See? I told you we should have picked start #3!

3000 BC -- The Greeks have Alphabet. I don't think it's worth spending one less turn researching Alphabet than we could spend researching The Wheel and trading it. Switch research to The Wheel.

Tech Situation:

Greece -- Up Alphabet, Down Pottery, Ceremonial Burial
Germany -- Down Ceremonial Burial

Press Enter.

2950 BC -- Move by Leipzig; the Greeks don't attack in the interturn. Good.

2900 BC -- We find Gems south of Germany and pop a hut for Masonry. Dial up Greece and trade Pottery and Masonry for Alphabet and 2 Gold. Up the luxury tax when Mont... grows; The Wheel now in 11 turns, Colossus in 25.

2850 BC -- Spot another Goody Hut in the tundra.

2800 BC -- Get maps from the hut. There is Incense in some hills in the Tundra. Germany has The Wheel :/ Trade Masonry and Alphabet for it. I'm not sure what to research next -- I wasn't expecting to have to make a choice so soon. Writing, due in 27.

2750 BC -- ZZZ

2710 BC -- Spot another goody hut far south of Germany and reach the northern edge of the Tundra.

2670 BC -- Pop the hut... And get a Settler  He begins the long trek back to Mont...

2630 BC -- Finally spot Greek borders far south of Germany. The Germans may even manage to retake Berlin if the Greeks can't reinforce it.

2590 BC -- Mont... grows, lux tax upped again. Writing due in 22 at -1gpt, 20 gold banked. We'll have to fiddle with that.

2550 BC -- ZZZ

The Jag Warrior south of Germany is catching up to the Settler to escort it. Writing due in 21, The Colossus in 11, growth in Mont... in 9. The nearest Horses are on the Plains SW of Mont..., but Greece's attack on Germany may allow us to control them for a while.

It seems that the only settlers come in a OCC game.

Is there any way we can block Berlin off from the Greeks (or temporarily delay them) so that the Germans can get it back?

Wait, who's up?

I think bed_head is but I don't think Ankka will mind if you go now.

Nah, I can wait, its just I didn't want to be skipped or anything. :)

I think so. I think Cuivienen played elevenish turns, though.

Well, until 1950 BC, which is turn 45 I think.

2430 BC (3) - Berlin is once again German.

2230 BC (8) - Spot red borders with the JW that was supposed to be escorinting the settler (escorted all the way to near German lands, where I was figuring it would be safe until the northern JW could come down and provide protection).

2190 BC (9) - Meet Babylonians, who have Mysticism, but can't trade for it.

2110 BC (11) - Finish Colossus, which drops three turns off of research on Writing, but doesn't raise luxury enough to drop it to 20%. Start on Temple, because we want our cultural influence to be as high as possible, and we don't need much of an army just yet as far as I can tell. Also meet the French, who are much nicer as far as trading goes. They give Mysticism and 11g for the Wheel. That in turn allows me to gift CB to Greece for 7g and then trade Mysticism, The Wheel, and 22g for IW. Unfortunately, the nearest iron as far as I can tell is near Greece.

1990 BC (14) - Temple finishes, and start the Pyramids (prebuild for GL). This could definitely be changed. We could consider a granary first to get it up to size 12 a bit faster, or a barracks and a few units if that is the direction we need to go.

Yay, Berlin is blue! We got some techs, which is great. Do we want the GL and the GL?

You definitely do NOT want Great Library. MoM and Great Lighthouse is pretty much all you need in the ancient ages. As of now, since you haven't researched Writing, might be too early to start prebuild (especially if you want to go CoL first). A granary then some curraghs to find the other continent is probably a better choice. Rax and some military is good to have too.

I did ten turns, sorry (first was pre-turn). I just assumed that it was ten turns each.

Good that Berlin is German again -- hopefully the Greeks slowed themselves down building military. Not that that's a good thing if France comes to the fore, but at least France is far away.

I'm not sure I agree with microbe that we don't want The Great library. It's useful for picking up techs we'll be researching late (Engineering, Feudalism, Polytheism, Monarchy, Invention) and Literature is a good trade tech. No MoM in 1.29, either. The Great Lighthouse and Great Library are probably our best bets (+The Hanging Gardens if we can snag it).

We will need to watch out for cultural victory though, if we get the Library.
