Anno Domini update

Every time civs share an era they share city styles. A 2 era mod could be done (around 80 techs if crowded, better say 70) and then have one group of civs use eras 1 and 2 and the other would use eras 3 and 4. Then you have a constant 10 city sets (not suggesting this for your mod, just sharing thoughts :))
That's certainly one way of doing it.

Going back to what I was suggesting above, let's say, for example, you had just Egypt and Carthage in a North African culture group. It'd be okay for them to share graphics in the "dawn of time" era one; the classical age would cover eras two (where Carthage would be, no Egypt) and three (where Egypt would be, no Carthage); it would then be acceptable for them to reconvene for the era four late Dark Ages/early Medieval era.

I am beginning to think that this approach is not suitable for Anno Domini, though it is something I'm interested in for another future scenario based on the Anno Domini era.

I've started to put the first new leaderhead together. Actually, I don't know who to go for as ruler of Thracia, but I was thinking about Spartacus, seeing as he was (allegedly) Thracian - even though his name essentially means "from Sparta." Anyway, here's two views of the new leaderhead:

For once, I'm in two minds about my leaderheads. Should I do the new ones so that you can see the body, like the left, or should it be a facial shot, like the right? Although it might be tempting to go for the pose with the body, don't forget that the facial expressions (important in leaderhead making!) are less obvious than they would be on a close-up.

It looks to me like he has breasts  perhaps make him a smaller cup size ;)
He's got pecs at least...it's the freak model that I'm using.

his head may also be a little too small for the rest of him......looks great otherwise :)
I increased the head size by 10% on the freak model; perhaps I need to increase it by a further 5%

Here's another version of the leaderhead:

The head size has been increased by a further 5%. The viewpoint is about half-way between the two in the post above - does that look about right?

Also, is Spartacus the right leader for Thracia or is there a preferred alternative?

I think the expressions are clear enough that you could go for the body pictures, it would allow some more creativity in costuming and posturing and be something of a bridge to the Civ4 leaderhead style.

edit - I think the pic in post 167 looks just slightly more zoomed in than the Civ4 leaders to me (although it could be the freak model is hard on my perspective here :mischief:)

That is just what I was thinking ;) .

The R8XFT unit factory grinds into action again!! Obviously, there'll be a need (or we'll create a need ;) ) for some nice new units. Here's a straightforward start for me; I thought it would fit in as a generic swordsman for the European non-celtic civs - perhaps the Germanic ones.

Please note that this is not a completed unit, just rendered in one direction only for feedback/comments.

It would be reasonably straightforward for me to make a spearman using the same clothing, helmet and shield; then, there'd be two units that fit together in the same time period in the mod. This is probably a look that would suit era three (which, if we're doing a similar timescale to the original mod, would cover 200AD - 700AD roughly).

In terms of the mod itself, I've decided not to use one era to specialise certain civilizations. Whilst it's an interesting idea, I feel that it's essentially a way to create more different city styles - and giving up an era, cramming some civs' advances into one era is too much of a compromise in my opinion. It is, however, something I'll keep in mind for a scenario in the future ;) .

The unit looks great. :) I can't quite tell what the headgear is though- if you hadn't mentioned that it's a helmet I would have thought it was just hair.
I suppose that's the problem when you view it at that scale :( .

I'm over on my other PC and found these two units - not quite completed, but they do have the animation rendered at least. I'm certain that they could find a place in the mod ;) .

Here's my next question: the civ list seems to have settled at:

01. Anglo-Saxons
02. Armenia
03. Athens
04. Axum
05. Brigantia
06. Bulgars
07. Carthage
08. Corinth
09. Coritani
10. Dacia
11. Egypt
12. Eire
13. Etrusca
14. Gauls
15. Goths
16. Huns
17. Iberii
18. Iceni
19. Illyria
20. Kushan
21. Macedonia
22. Marcomanni
23. Meroe
24. Nabatea
25. Parthia
26. Persia
27. Picts
28. Rome
29. Scythia
30. Sparta
31. Thrace

How would you split these into five culture groups?
