Another Civ

Double-post.

They're geographically African civilisations, yes. Neither are African cultures though.

Just a thought guys... In the ancient world (at least after around 7000 bc) the sahara functioned as a far more effective barrier than the mediterranean. Therefore, to all intents and purposes, africa can be thought of as TWO continents. You could equally well throw the whole northern and eastern coastal regions into one huge meta-continent with southern europe and the near east, as these regions were culturally very similar.

Also, I think before we argue too much about Brazil, lets wait a few years... with a population and potential mineral reources of the size Brazil has, there is almost no chance that within the next 50 years they will not become a major world player.

I think Brazil will be included, just not right away. They've got the World Cup and Olympics coming up, and are the emergent power in South America right now. I wouldn't expect them to be in vanilla V, but I would not at all be surprised to see them in one of the expansion packs.

Patriotism has zero place in world history.
i'm not sure what you mean by this. obviously different cultures have different names for things, but that's kind of a moot point. patriotism is one of the most important things in world history, especially if you broaden it to supporting religions or ideals instead of just your country. i guess that's not really patriotism, but it's the same concept.

like i said before, that's an ambiguous statement. chances are that your family's culture isn't completely to the family of the person sitting next to you, but you're still both probably british. translate that into an entire continent and it gets even more confusing.
here's a kind of silly sounding american example: here on the east coast, we call it soda. over in michigan, though, they call it pop, just like in some places in canada. does that mean they're more canadian than american?

I think he means that patriotism should not cloud judgement when reviewing history; not that there hasn't been examples of patriotism in world history.

I think Brazil would be a good addition. It's as important a nation as some that are included and South America is underrepresented. I agree Lula is a good leader but don't think that it is a good idea to use a living person as a Civ leader. (I am from USA).
