Has anyone invented a fire-based tool that can be used on insects? So far my little lighter can only kill slower moving, smaller insects and only if they aren't airborne. I need something with a wide- spread, longer-range flame. Enough to singe the wings of a fly or mosquito, causing it to fall, but a small burst like that wouldn't hurt your hand or melt your table. Not illegal is it?

Try combining a lighter with an aerosol deodrant - works every time for me :D

Seriously what king of strange person are you who wants to incinerate insects.
By a gas gun - the're great

Hmm, I thought flaming was not allowed in these forums/fora... :D

Speaking of mosquitoes, can someone give me a good reason for their continued existance?

Theories I want to shoot down:

1. They feed bats. So what, I can live without bats too. I can't think of anything in the food chain that is depending on bats for its survival, and if so, tough.

2. The diseases they spread keep down populations. We try our best to eradicate these diseases where possible. Plus, other things can spead disease to keep the populations of men and beasts down.

3. They keep the Off company in business. Much like tax accountants, our society can get by without them if the original problem was to go away.

I suffer from increased mosquito attention due to my chemical make-up. Mosquitoes seek me out in preference to all others. I prefer camping in the late fall to camping in the summer for this reason. I hate mousquitos. I would be all for a personal flame shield to burn them up on contact.

What kind of make up do you wear kt2 and which chemicals is it made of?

The solution to all your insect problems is simple: open a butcher's shop. With one of those blue light things that kills bugs then you won't have any trouble keeping them off your chops. :goodjob:

If that is the basis of "worth", then what in the food chain depends on humanity exactly?

By make-up I mean composition. I do not wear make-up.

As far what depends on humans, it depends on your perspective, but a case could be made for domesticated animals.

I'm am joking, somewhat, but I hate mosquitoes and would love to see them disapear from the earth. I know that usually when one goes along those speculations there is always a good reason to keep a species because of where it fits in the grand plan. I just want to know what the good reason is for mosquitoes.

Did I mention that I hate them?

Get a pellet or BB gun and pump it up unloaded. Drop a bit of
sand down the barrel. Go big game huntin' indoors on a rainy
day! The sand works just like mosquito-sized buckshot, it's fun and eco-friendly too.

BB guns are not rifled, the sand won't affect the "accuracy"
even if you didn't clean it. And we are talkin' t a few grains here
not buckets. It will all blow out if your BB gun is not an oily mess.

A pellet gun is rifled and yes must be cleaned right after. However
you should ALWAYS clean any rifled gun both before & after use.
If you don't know this you shouldn't own one.

Some other fun loads for your BB gun, rabbit pellets (non-lethal)
and wooden pipe matches (tracer)

i have a gun that shoots plastic bullets and its very inaccurate
but i can shoot musquitos from 8 meter and i do that without my glasses!:D
its sometimes funny if you saw a crappy musquito flying around .you take your nice little gun take a plastic bullet load it aim and FIRE!:goodjob: :nuke: :king: and see that musquitos angle pinned in the wall!also good:take a lighter and set that flame into a anti musquito candle:they die instantly

Fair point - I had a pellet gun, not a bb gun.

But how many people actually DO clean them?

Do you mean mosquitoes or mosquite-kindalike insects in general?
At least finnish birds would die without the 'mosquitoes' in here.

Well, I could start with the mosquitoes themselves, and see how that went. It's all hypothetical anyway, since other than genetic engineering we don't have any chance of wiping out a species like mosquitos. Hmm...Maybe we aren't as far away as I think...

Just the sharp shooters. You'll get a better seal and therefore
better range too. BTW ,The sand doesn't get enough force to embed in the rifleing so no damage is done. In your BB gun
it will actually clean the barrel.

You can use rabbit pellets (non-lethal) and wooden pipe matches (tracer) in pellet guns too. BB guns are more fun. I've loaded mine with mud & stones (remove the BB barrel) somethings if i've run out of ammo.

Yeah I have the "sweet blood" too. Ants avoid me usually, but when they bite the lump hurts and won't go away for a week plus. Opposite of my mom, who gets ant bites but not mosquito.

You watch Dragonball or any other kungfu anime? All I need is something one billionth the power of a kamehameha and poof! No more squito. Or a level 0.1 Fire spell, that'll do.

well the best way is to get a bottle of "off," get a lighter, and spray the stuff thru the fire making a flame thrower. once when i went camping, i wasted 5 whole bottles of "off" by starting fires with it and killing insects. im not an arsonist, i just like playin with fire.:)

One of my favorites along this line was to take a Daisy air/BB gun, loan a kitchen match down the barrel and shoot roachs against a wall, It would impale them then sear them.
:sniper:

the cruelest way to kill a insect like a musquito:
use some anti-fly spray, this will paralyse them, not kill them, paralyse them.take themand chop off his wings or put his wings into flames.then give the living helpless body to a hungry spider.
Its all part of the foodchain!:goodjob:
