Antonius Block's Learning Experience 1: Zulu Dawn

Antonius has let me know that he will be away, on short notice, for a couple of weeks.

He will pick this one back up as soon as he can.

Which is now! During my down time, I played through to 1000bc. Here is what happened:

1910 BC- Zimbabwe worker>warrior.
Worker mines cow #2.
Road over horses started.

1830 BC- warrior>Impi

1750 BC- More unrest in Zimbabwe. :(

1700 BC- Impi>Impi Ulundi in unrest. :(

1650 BC- NW barbarian camp taken by warrior. Northern scout killed by barbarians. Bapedi barracks >temple.

1625 BC- Zimbabwe Impi>Settler.

1600 BC- last scout out there dies at the hands of barbarians.

1575 BC- Ulundi Granary>worker.

1525 BC- Alphabet>writing.

1500 BC- Road to Bapedi complete, dye road begun.
Zimbabwe settler>temple.

1450 BC- Ulundi worker > settler.

1400 BC- Hlobane founded on NW horse tile. First build= barracks.

1350 BC- Trade Persia 240 gold +5 gpt to Persia for Iron Working.

1325 BC- Dye road done. Cutting forest on dye tile.
Zimbabwe temple>settler.

1300 BC- Ulundi Settler>temple.

1250 BC- Persia wants 2 gold not to destroy me. I appease him.
Zimbabwe settler>barracks.

1200 BC- Trondheim completes Collosus.

1175 BC- Zimbabwe barracks>Impi.
Hlobane barracks>Impi.

1150 BC- Islandhwana founded due south of Bapedi on the Islandhwana river. First build=temple.
:( Barracks at Hlobane sold off... reset build there to barracks and reduce science funding.
Bapedi temple>archer.

1100 BC- Intombe founded at mouth of Islandhwana river. First build: barracks.
Zimbabwe Impi>worker.

1075 BC- Irrigating dye tile, other 2 workers irrigating out to Zimbabwe's wheat tile. Zimbabwe worker>settler.

1050 BC- Bapedi archer> scout

1000 BC- Current state of play... 19 turns to writing.

I'd appreciate comments, especially regarding my build cues, my decision to pay thru the nose for Iron working, and how I can avoid city unrest without having to micromanage... there's no way, right?

EDIT: The interested will found BlockaZulu 1000bC in the uploads 4 folder...

Wow, thanks Speaker. I had gotten frustrated by my cable modem going off the blink. Any chance you want to post screenshots from it?! :)

Thanks Padma. I have a feeling stuff gets lost and the interaction is nowhere near as dynamic in the stories and tales.

The shadow players will keep me interested in this game, unlike some of the s&t games I started that fizzled.

I am going to open this game as a succession game now if anybody wants to start taking turns. I like the planet I'm on and hate to see it go pear-shaped just because I'm a lousy gamer...

This following the most recent activity...

One Hundred Years of Solitude

975 bc- irrigation of dye tile complete, that worker moves to pine forest north of the horse.

Barbarians begin to show up.

Zimbabwe settler>impi.

950 bc. Impi killed fighting a barb warrior. Ulundi temple changed to Impi.

Ulundi Impi>impi.

925 bc. Warrior from Ulundi kills barb warrior.
Hlobane Impi>barracks
Persepolis builds pyramids.

900 bc. Not much going on...

Anyone feel like picking this and running with it, say until 0 bc?

I'm open to up to four extra players signing on...

Hooray!:band:

wait, are you going to make this into a full fledged sg, or are you going to keep it shadowish?

No, yeah, I want it to be a s.g. now. I want to see these Zulu thrive and kick butt. You want to join up and go after hotrod? (Just remember to please not fortify troops in the field at the end of your turn?)

I'm thinking of doing this with a loose structure- pick it up, play awhile, pass it on style.

alright, but just dont be afraid to skip me. im new at sg's, but i wont leave any more troops fortified. im not sure which ones i did, but o well

No problem. It was galleys at sea and in Nottingham, and a berserker outside the walls of Sverdlosk... I just didn't get it because if I hadn't looked for the unit I would have missed them entirely...

i might be able to play some tonight. how many turns are we going to play? whose game are we going to play. i think we should use hotrods. also, i think that we should discuss our turns, sorda like a tdg but not really.

Whoa, whoa, whoa...

AFAIK, hotrod has grabbed my game as I left it and is working on it now. When he posts his turns, you can take over.

Yeah, do what you are comfortable with. Me personally, I'm not sure of my skill, so I keep mine to ten from now on. Hotrod is strong, so I told him to round out the BC era.

Try to do enough that you are satisfied but not so much that the game has completely changed by the time it passes hands.

The Early Years: 900 BC - 775 BC: Expansion is the name of the game. Continue to research writing. Build a few more worker and settler and still need more. Persia has writing and will not trade. Some AI must have Map as we see galleys on the ocean.

The Middle years: Founded 3 new cities, focused on infrastructure: temples and barracks. The barbs are out in force and requires caution when moving settlers and workers. Recently learned writing and began on math. Hope to make a trade with persia for HBR and Maps.

The War Begins: Persia demands 19 gold and TM I refuse we are at war. At home spending is suspended and military build up begins. Impi and archer army will be on the war path.

In the year 250BC the first attack comes on native soil and the impi holds his ground we enter a victorious golden age. Archers are on the way to the front lines. Most core cities have 2 impi and more can be started. Military focus over the nex few years and the war will be ours to lose. Persia looks to be mounting a strike on a far out city. The last founded before the war. Almost all cities have barracks and can build vet units. With HBR due in 4 turns. We can builds up SOD of impi and horsemen that can travel to the Persians cities with impunity.

War was not my intention. but here it is any way!
