Any fans of Orbiter (spaceflight simulator) around here?

Well I still can't do crap on it. Congrats of landing on the...... MOON!!!!@!!!11

Did you plant the Czech or the EU flag when you landed on the moon?

They should make this thing massively multiplayer. Thousands of spaceships flying around the solar system, people planting flags everywhere, taking them down, swearing at eachother over headsets...

I think it's almost abandonware now... Could be wrong though.

I think it's pretty much alive. New add-ons are being made and I think there is a new version in the making.

I think the main problem is that in order to make the simulation look better, you'd have to run it on a supercomputer. I am using Level 10 textures for the moon, that's about... I don't know, 200 MB? It looks good from a reasonable distance, but if you wanted a really realistic looking texture, it would have to be HUGE. And of course, unless you use a certain add-on, the planet surfaces are flat (except some areas which are modelled in add-ons).

That's because you don't read the PDF I linked :)

Hm, I must take a look if there's an add-on for that :D I think the UMMU module (which allows extravehicular activities as seen on my screenshots) allows you to deploy, grab and manipulate objects. EU flag on the Moon would look great indeed.

MMORPG Orbiter? That would be awesome, though I have NO IDEA how could it possibly work. Travelling in space is mostly boring - without time acceleration I'd have to stare at my computer screen for 3 days - that's how long it took me to reach moon.

However, the program is extremely modable, so you can create practically any kind of scenario if you get the right stuff (ship models, textures and some plugins). Once I master interplanetary travel, I'll try to build a realistic-looking spaceship in Earth orbit and launch a mission to Mars. No sci-fi engines, only reasonable extrapolations of near-term technology.

And after Mars, I plan to learn how to do gravity assists and then travel to the Moons of Jupiter and Saturn :D

congrats, whish I had some spare time for this.

I am learning this in short sessions, because I too don't have much free time. Usually in the evenings, though this is dangerous because I often lose track of time and play way past midnight, which isn't really helping me the next day

Ha, I've found the flag add-on :D
