I just bought Old World, but as I was downloading Old World on my Macbook I noticed the fine text in the store page that said 'not compatible with M1'. Will Mohawk Games give Old World M1 compatibility, through Rosetta or something else? I also have a PC with Fedora Linux that I use occasionally, but I guess it would be compatible with Proton.

I'm hoping you bought on Steam, as that platform already has a Linux build, and will soon have an M1 build.

1) Install via Steam
2) Locate the Old World app in Finder
3) Select it and Get Info (CMD I)
4) Tick "Open using Rosetta" and close the info panel
5) Launch Old World via Steam

Old World is a Universal Binary but the Apple Silicon build isn't working with Steamworks yet and crashes. Mohawk are working on it. In the meantime, the Intel build works great on M1.

Sounds like the Epic Game Store version won't support native M1 unless Epic make an arm64 version of their Steamworks equivalent. Mac version isn't available on GOG yet, not sure what the story is there.

On Steam, it runs through Rosetta as Xyth indicates. We'll be rolling out an update to run in native M1 mode soon, for now it crashes without Rosetta. There's also a Linux native build on Steam.

On Epic, the Mac version runs through Rosetta (automatically), and there's no chance of a native M1 build there for the foreseeable future.

Thank you all, it's working now!

I'm not seeing an Open using Rosetta option. :/

edit: weirdly by going to the app location in the finder another way, there was the rosetta option. And then it all worked.
