I subscribe to Maximum PC magazine, as a simple source for What's New in fhe PC market. They also include sample computer 'builds' every month showing off configurations with all the latest components.I am serious person.
Waiting for Anno 117 should serve you well if GPUs are any interest at that time. Early 2025 nvidia is ezpexted to come out with new high end and towards middle during the year. AMD is expected to "strike" in mid end as they can not compete at high end. Then intel is expected to be on market with new ARC B series, but it is mystery where it lands and how it works. But still most competition in middle in many years.
CPU side will be more stagnant. Nothing new is coming expect high end AMD >8 core 3D cache gaming CPUs. Unless intel tries price wars as it's new core ultra series was not very good in gaming.
By their criteria, even the highest requirements for Civ VII are met by their Medium Build, while their Turbo Build (highest capability) rigs are, as of the November 2024 issue, well above Civ VII requirements. Consequently, I don't foresee a pressing need for a new computer or upgrade at launch. But my experience in Civ VI was that the more DLCs they added and especially with larger maps the actual requirements increased until I could not play to the late game on anything larger than Standard Maps.
At which point it was time to Upgrade.
As stated, I'm more worried about the requirements for Anno 117, which right now looks to be my other Major Game Time devourer by the end of 2025, and those haven't even been hinted at yet.
