Anyone else just not send delegations anymore?

I still send them. I like info on wonder starting most of all. But you may need the next level diplomatic access to get that (embassies). I find with enough trade routes I have the gold, it's not such a big deal. I'm an information whore I suppose, I even read the messages even if most aren't particularly useful. Like I said, I like to know when the AI starts on a wonder. If they start before me, then chances are I'll never be able to build it.

Only time I don't bother sending them is if I plan on wiping that civilization off the face of the Earth.

Getting embassies isn't always easy as they tend to denounce you all the time. I try to establish an embassy right when declaring peace, that's the only time they are open for it.

Yeah, I tend to actually do the opposite of the premise of this thread: I send my delegations and put embassies wherever/whenever I can, and I don't accept delegations or embassies from the AI's (typically). I try to keep them in the dark about what's going on in my borders while learning everything I can about their plans/actions; especially with regard to wonders.

They constantly keep asking to send delegations/embassies, and I keep saying "We're not accepting visitors at this time," and they keep saying "Bummer" or "Bad luck!" and there seems to be no bad consequence to keep denying them access to my political inner workings.

Diplomatic visibility can provide useful information on whether or not other civs are building wonders.

Technically, if you have explored those portions of the map, you can manually check to see if they are building the wonder but it becomes tedious constantly checking. Much easier to get the notification that City X has cleared space for Wonder Y.

In my 60 hours with Civ6 I have not been beaten to a wonder even once, on any difficulty level. This whole visibility/intel thing is nice if you play the game like a Civ RPG, but it has 0 strategic value because the AI is not able to accomplish anything anyway.

Indeed, this is a good example of how big a problem the AI issues are. It kills the immersion. It could be super interesting to find out what other civs are doing through a diplomacy system, it's a really fun mechanic - but it just doesn't matter. Whether you follow the gossip or ignore it, it makes no difference.

I zeroed out war mongering. The game is far far better in play-ability and the ai is not going crazy with denouncements and is still waging wars but not just crazy dogpiles.

Only time I send them is after making a peace deal while they're still friendly with the money they just gave me. It is a waste though as diplomacy is in my experience not worth it, the penalties are too severe for everything you do.

This was my first strategy actually- Just as in civ 5 , I found that by ignoring all requests for friendship, relations etc early on it actually helped (certainly never hindered me). In 6 they just keep sending requests and try and get on your good side it seems. the longer you drag your feet the less damage can be done by the screwy 'Diplomatic' stuff,

Not sure what you are doing. I'm quite frequently beat to wonders. Especially Pyramids and Petra. Even on the middle difficulties. I could get around that by beelining techs more, but it just isn't that important to me, other techs are more important. And especially with the new factory overlapping system, it's even more difficult to get production rich cities to overcome the AI.

The AI is too manic to bother with delegations. Raise your affinity? Surprise war dec!

Midgame, however, I do send embassies to newly met Civs and slam trade my extra luxuries immediately, before they denounce me for whatever warmonger penalty I have from earlier wars. I'm usually pretty flush with cash by then though.

I prefer to play with the toys even if they seem a bit broken at times. It makes the game more interesting and fun to me.
That envoy +3 helps with the bad first impressions and can be a huge game changer at the beginning of a deity game.
I posted about 3 examples a couple of months back, especially when you get sumer , gorgo, rome near you.
I normally play lower now but that because deity is mainly a violent world.

I haven't played since the latest patch was released, so I don't know how that would play out. By the time factories become a thing I'm usually so far ahead in whatever I am trying to do that I doubt it changes anything.

And for the early wonders, including Pyramids and Petra, I have never had any trouble getting these even without extreme slingshots.

It's also not clear how many wonders he is trying for. If you don't build lots of wonders (or try to build every one) then obviously you won't get beat a lot.

I usually play on King/Emperor (less stressful than higher difficulties). It's always the early wonders that are hardest. If I beeline towards something, and am willing to commit resources (including chopping), I can just about always get a specific wonder I want.

However, with the Ancient wonders, it is really hard to get all four (Stonehenge, Pyramids, Oracle, and Hanging Gardens) unless you are China or are playing a low difficulty level. Typically, I will target 2 of them (usually Stonehenge and Oracle) which I can get, but by then, someone will have built the other 2, which I will eventually conquer.

As Kongo, if you get a good start and lots of relics, you can get Pyramids, Oracle, and Hanging Gardens. Stonehenge obviously isn't viable though.

Ok, sure, I am not trying to build all or lots of wonders. I only aim to build wonders that help me with my chosen path to victory.

If you want to build all or most wonders the gossip messages make some sense I guess.
