Civ VI, after a long wait, is actually in pretty good shape. Lots of good.

But, and I know how ridiculous this is to say, I find I’m just not all that motivated to play. I want to, but then I kind of just keep putting it off...

I had a long list of things that niggled me. After the last patch, that list has got pretty short, which is awesome. But there are a few things left on my list, like coastal cities, that still niggle and frustrate me. I guess I could just get over it (or play with mods), however it sounds like most or maybe even all of these issues could get addressed in the next patch.

...So I find myself preferring to wait until that drops, rather than plugging away at a game that still has niggles.

I’m not even sure there’s much point discussing many mechanics on these forums. It’s clear most stuff people have issues with is on FXS’s radar. And at this point, they’ve probably settled on whatever solutions they think are right. Likewise, it feels a bit pointless discussing strategy or approaches, because so much could change within another patch. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love hanging out with everyone here, but it feels like the game we had in Jan 2019 will be radically different to the game in Dec 2019. (I still can’t quite get over Rams and Knights getting nerfed and Georgia not sucking.)

I suspect that after another patch I might end up even tempted to wait for a third expansion too. Absolutely ridiculous, I know! It really depends on where the game is after the next patch. But given just how much a third expansion could bring to the game in its current state post GS, and given how time poor I am, I may just decide to wait a bit longer before investing time learning how to play the game and get the most out of it.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Not at all!

In fact, after having played Civ6 during +280h in 2017, I stopped, and rediscovered the pleasure of playing Civ6 online with a Belgian friend who just bought it a couple of weeks ago for his vacations.
And as he only have the vanilla version (but with added civs, i.e. Indonesian, Australian, etc), I play again with the same version without add-ons

And it is very great to re-discover the game 2 years later, with all patches and the "1 more turn" syndrome, and in a lengthy online game (+80h now in our game for the last 2 weeks...) ...

So, no, I absolutely do not wait for more as it is now like finding again an old love ...

... and I will certainly stop and play another game, then, in 2 years from now, play the available expansions/add-ons...

Civilization is NOT a fast-food game. Preliminaries are, and must, be long, soft, quiet, patient. And pleasant.

That's normal for me as well. Every time a new patch releases I come back and sink tons of hours into the game. It's a lot of fun to try all the new possible strategies, the more creative you can get the better. But after a while I realize that I'm on autopilot for most decisions again and then it starts to become kinda pointless to play really.
Currently I have a lot fun because faith got a lot of buffs recently and Moksha is my new favourite governor with his ability to buy districts with faith. I'm trying to find an optimal strategy around this specific ability and it's already working very very well. I'm actually surprised how good it is given the lack of discussions about it.
Role playing doesn't really work for me so I need more strategic challenges every now and then, for example a new patch. I'd say just take a break and come back when you feel like it.

spot on !
as soon as it is "homework", it is not "game"...
better to go for a looooooooooong walk with the doggies...

Well, I'm waiting for the next patch* since 2 years and 9 months, when civ6 was released and I realized that the game was not going to please me.

*hopefully the patch that will bring the gameplay DLL source code, allowing to remodel the game to one's liking...

I'm more waiting for the first two expansions on Switch, since they just announced they are coming so I finally bought the Switch version.

Every time a new patch releases I come back and sink tons of hours into the game.

That's not me. I'm not dropping a tonne of hours into the game after each patch. Instead, an expansion or patch comes out, I tool around with it a little and then go "yeah, not quite there yet", stop playing, and then wait for the next patch.

I came pretty close to getting back into the game with the last patch, but yeah, still not quite there yet. So now I'm waiting for the next patch … again.

At least if feels like it's getting close to where I want the game to be to really jump back in...

Have limited time to play at the moment, still filling up the Hall of Fame. Half way-ish, plenty to do still.

I have way too massive a game backlog to be playing Civ6 all the time .. playing Skyrim now then the new WoW patch... then some RTW2... aaah

In occasionally coming back. I just filled that survey and it has me all aflutter though. Cant wait to see whats next.

I'm both playing and awaiting the next infusion of content.

Although I did take a break between the April and June patches.

I'm quite content with the game's current state for the moment, especially since Hungary made it into Civ at last. :) That said, patches and more content are always appreciated.

I've been paying quite a bit lately, not only my usual single-player slowly knocking off achievements and filling the HOF, but also some hot seat with one or both of my kids. They're only 4 and 6, so it's lots of exploring and building stuff and random goals (I want to build that special ship! I want to be friends with that guy!).

I play slowly enough that I can't see myself running out of interesting things for a while.

My kids are 4 and 6 too, so I can totally relate to this! When we meet a new civ, I let my son decide if we are going to be friends or not. :)

Definitely waiting for the next one.

Current game: Brazil declares on me, I pillage their lands and take one city in recompense (Porto Alegre) but I reduce most of their city walls.
My ally Hungary now comes in and takes Rio De Janiro but it naturally wants to flip back. I protect other Brazilian cities until Rio becomes a free city and take it and let them take Sao Paulo
Other brazilian cities are starting to fall and I can see how you can play this game to get entire civs without much grievance and its different and fun.

?

I am not sure if I understand your point and cannot relate it to this thread (Anyone else just waiting for the next patch / expansion?)
Do you mean that you have fun without waiting for something?b Or is it simply a glitch and you wanted to post in another thread?

Sorry, was related to a post just above AI made, should have appended.

I hadn't played for about 3 months (though a couple failed attempts). But lately I've been playing again. Part of the reason is I had switched shifts at work, and my new shift I was never in the mood for computer games because my off time was before work. I didn't play any games at all. But now I'm back on my old shift thankfully. And I can also get into my old Friday (my Friday is actually Saturday) routine of CBR. Civ6, beers, and relaxation. Actually that should be CMBR. Civ6, metal on in the background, beers, and relaxation.

Working on a Spain game right now after I mentioned the conquistadors in the elimination thread. Of course I ended up with no niter. Sigh. I can conquer it though, which I'm about to do shortly. I also am Suzerain of Kabul (with 3 Amani promotions), but they still have a farm over their niter annoyingly. I won't let lack of niter ruin my Spanish conquest plans. Thank god for the map search feature (because the one I have to conquer is under a campus).
