Anyone else use the editor to delete barbarians?

I tend to use the editor to delete barbarians from the map in FFH2, mostly because they rampage out of control, tend to be stronger then anything you could hope to build at the time, and have an annoying habbit of destroying both my cities (even when rather well defended) and entire computer civilizations.

Anyone else do this? Anyone just glare at some absurd army, equal in size to your defending force but with a higher strength then anything you can build anytime soon (even your hero unit) appear right outside your capital in the middle of a war and then just -DELETE- it? I mean heck, even with Lairs turned off, in FFH and most mods/modmods I get attacked by barbarian stacks at least every few turns coming out of nowhere in <x> random city.

I believe that it is a matter of gemeplay style

I like fighting with barbs,. I admit they are powerful in FfH, but nonetheless I prefer to play with 'raing barbs' on, and sometimes even with 'barbarian world' on.
I like to ambush them, provoking them to attack my units on the hills, etc.

Of course, I always have a lot more units than I had when I was playing vanilla civilization

There is an option to disable barbarians. Also, you mention playing the modmods. I know both Rife and WildMana have more powerful barbarian spawns than vanilla FFH does.

I once had a battle with a barbarian in which my unit had a 97% plus chance of winning, but lost the battle anyway. I was so annoyed that I went into the world builder and killed that barbarian. But it was just the once -- I don't like raging barbarians, but "normal " ones are just part of the challenge.

Just a standard day in the land of civ ;) You're gonna lose those one time in 33. Not all that unlikely.

And I ordinarily try to roll with the punch -- after all, I've won some battles with long odds the other way. But for some reason, that one infuriated me more than usual.

I've sometimes ended up doing this with Orthus, but usually don't bother.

I don't delete barbarians. I don't play with Barbarian World or Raging Barbarians usually, and the barbs are part of the challenge. I never get rolled over by them, I think it really comes down to building enough defense.

Note that the endless barbarians can be a benefit. You can get some very high XP units fighting those waves of barbs. If you play the Sdiar, you wnat them to come on!

But as Tholal says, it is a lot easier to click the 'no barbarian' option than to go into the worldbuilder and delete them.

Best wishes,

Breunor

I _have_ been playing with no Acheron recently, not no barbs. (Also, no hell terrain and compact enforced, but that's just me.)

Even Orthus. He tends to circle around for several turns, giving me enough time to defend myself so I even want him to attack my cities so I can get the hot ax. The level of barbs in FfH seems to be about right for me.
I delete barbs sometimes when they're too sneaky, like when I just move troops to one end of my territory to start a war and a stack of barbs magically appears at the opposite end, Earlier in the gane, there's not enough troops to spread around to defend against that.
I probably delete barb boats more often than land units. Those boats are really pesky :and I don't care to earn XP for my navy as much.

That's cheating.

In seriousness, If I'm surrounded by crypts and Ruins, I just restart a new round. no muss, no fuss.

A question to the guys who play with raging barbarians:

I've been playing some games with this option on, but I'm not seeing any difference in the number of barbarians...

What's your experience with it?

I think of them as free exp for my units. I try to leave up barrows and such wherever I can, then farm them for overpowered units. They can be pretty challenging early on, and I play defensively until I can get the upper hand. I may lose a few warriors, but I end up with a couple very strong ones for later on. I build nothing but warriors from turn one, til I have three or four, then comes the palisade and then some more warriors to set up defensive points outside my city and give my workers a chance to do their thing. If I rush adepts or priests then I look for opportunities of exp for them as well. Barbs aren't bad if you plan for them, and let's you train your army early.

To Ichabod: no clue. I notice a big difference between the two settings, but I haven't played vanilla in awhile, so I'm not sure. I definitely notice it in wildmana though.
