Anyone for SW:TOR?

I've been playing it. I wish you could play as a droid!

kind of hard justifying playing as a droid from a RP perspective :)

I played a little bit, and even got the name I wanted. Yay. But I just don't have time to play unfortunately. First impression (I'm only level 2) is that it isn't as good as World of Warcraft. The story and cut scenes are good, but the voice acting isn't as good as in games such as Dragon Age. I won't rate the game yet, since I haven't had time to really play anything.

How do you add friends to your friends list? I want to add my brother by typing in his name, but I can't figure out how to do that. And for some reason my game came with no manual  I'm sure I can find a manual online, it just pisses me off they can't print a few pages. Cheap ass bastards.

How is the instancing and sharding done in SWTOR? How many per instance/shard? I dont like them personally. Think I just put this on hold.

It's a huge world where everyone can tool around and the instancing are enclosed areas like a building or a cave, indicated by a green screen or a red screen if you're not allowed in.

Thanks, theres just so much going on. It doesnt sound so bad if compared to STO or AoC. I dont know what to trust.

There are also heroic instances in the bottom level of the fleet location. The various droids around the fleet area will offer daily missions to complete them.

And to add a friend, you simply hit the social tab and hit the + key.

Do note, though, that your friend has to be online at the time, or else it won't let you add them. For some reason it's unable to search offline characters, so if you try to add someone while they are offline it will tell you they don't exist.

I had a feeling it wouldn't let me add offline characters. oh well. Sometimes it's hard to get online at the same time.

This game is kind of annoying. Maybe I've been spoiled for too long by games such as world of warcarft. But at least that game came with a game manual. I still have no idea what valor is.

I'm stuck. I'm level 8, but the guy I need to kill to advance the questline is level 10, and he also had a partner. I'm on the Dark Temptations quest. I must have missed some sidequests, and I'm looking around trying to find more quests, but I can't find anymore quests. I feel like the game is unplayable now. The only thing I can do is grind on some mobs, but I don't want to do that.

You've definitely missed some sidequests if you are underleveled for the mobs. I've been OVERleveled for the mobs I'm fighting practically the whole game. Try asking the other people in the zone if there's another quest hub somewhere, that's the good thing about MMO's, there are people you can ask right there in game with you.

Edit: Also, Valor is related to PVP, it's what let's you get new PVP gear and unlocks PVP titles. If you're only level 8 at this point, then you haven't unlocked PVP yet, and don't need to worry about it. If you don't like PVP, then you can ignore it entirely.

I tried looking around for quests, but couldn't find any. I really think it's just poor game design. I do like some things about the game (voice acting and quests that are a little more involved), but the lack of quests is seriously annoying.

Maybe I'll start a new character. I'm not sure I like Jedi Knight all that much anyways. I'm just stuck at level 8 and can't get anywhere.

I was thinking maybe I need to group with people, and the game is forcing you to play multiplayer. No one has invited me into a group, so I haven't grouped in this game yet. I miss lfg tool world of warcraft :(. It's great for shy people like me. I can't actually ask anyone to group with me.

So I see something in the quest log (L), and I think those are flashpoints maybe? (instances), but nothing happens when I click on them. Do I have to manually walk to the entrance? I haven't found any instances while questing except a couple red areas that were blocked to my class.

Yeah for flashpoints you gotta walk to the entrance of them and they are biiiiggg XP gains by doing them. There could be other stuff you've missed too like sometimes you get bright blue glowing objects which could be anything, you right-click it and put your saber through it. Oh another another bonus quest! "Destroy 10 sith medical supplies" :).

From my beta experience as Jedi Consular, (so same starting area and same non-class quests as your knight), if you just pick up every quest you see and do all of them I found I naturally got led to more quest hubs, and like Wolfbeckett, was overleveled for pretty much everything.

Alas I'm poor and can't afford to pick up the game yet. :(

I did find one quest I missed by exploring the ruins (the ones with the droids) more thoroughly, it involved moving a rock for a padawan who can't do it. I also killed droids in the area until I hit level 9.

The thing is, that quest in the cave in that same area is listed as like a level 7 or 8 quest, but the mob you fight is level 10-strong, and he has a partner (who's easier, but it still takes time to kill him). I used my strength adrenaline thingy, and I still had to use one health pack, and I was still very low on health at the end. And I used my commendations to buy the blue chest armor, and I bought a better blade for about 400 credits. All that, and it was still a close call. I think the difficulty on that quest is off.

I did find one cool thing after that. You can kill a quest giver! That's like the coolest thing I ever seen in a MMO. And good dark side points for doing it. :goodjob:

I also did a heroic area (not a flashpoint from what I can tell) for retrieving ancient knowledge (it gives you the Keeper of Truth title at the end). That gave me a ton of XP. I should have done that first, but there was no one in the area around 2AM last night. That's one drawback of MMO's is if you play in the wee hours of the morning, it's hard to find groups.

I just wish it explained how to find the flashpoints listed in the third tab of the quest log, because I have no idea where they are.

If you're still on the first planet (Tython?) you won't be able to do Flashpoints yet, you have to get to the republic fleet first. The first flashpoint you should unlock is Esseles, worth doing just because it's cool (and the loot and XP don't hurt either). As far as I can tell pretty much all of the flashpoints are accessed from the main fleet, you won't have to track down any entrances on planets or anything, you are ferried to them via shuttle from the main fleet. Maybe that changes later but I'm level 39 now and so far there haven't been any flashpoints on planets, just heroic areas of varying lengths that I typically skip because it takes too long to find a group for them.

By the way I think the flashpoints listed in the third tab you are talking about are actually Ops, this games version of raids, and therefore not something you will need to be concerned about for a loooooong time.

hmm, that kind of makes sense. Although it said the things were available. For instance, one is called Bonethrasher. It says it's available, but not what level range it is, or where it's located.

I kept thinking they were located on the planets like Typhon, but I couldn't find them. I found a couple red areas, but they said it was class restricted to consulars, so I don't think those were it.

There are a lot of confusing things in this game, I'm having trouble learning it. This would have been lessened if there was a manual to this game. I looked for a pdf one on the disc, but couldn't find one. I tried an internet search for a manual, and still couldn't find one. :( I found the trainers for professions, but I'm still very confused about them. I learned the profession, but I don't understand what they are, or how to advance them.

I started a new Jedi consular character. I'm not sure I like my Jedi Knight. I made him a guardian, and instantly realized I made a mistake after looking at the talent trees. Unfortunately you can't revert back. :(. I think I'll like consular better anyways.

I do like my consular, but I made him a fat jedi, and the novelty of having a fat character has wore off, and I wish I hadn't made him fat. :) Too bad you can't alter your appearance. Maybe my guy can go on a diet.

Lol yeah that's a valuable lesson to learn for any MMO: Don't make your main a novelty character. Novelty always wears off sooner or later. If you just started him recently you could always just reroll, it doesn't really take that long.

I went back to my guardian for now. They gave me 2 items when I chose my advanced class, but I don't know how to use them. I put one in my off-hand, and it says it needs a shield. I tried putting that on my hotbar, but I can't actually click it to use it. How do I use a shield or a shield generator?

Those items should be automatic as long as they are equipped, they give a random chance to absorb incoming damage. Assuming I'm thinking of the right thing.
