Anyone for SW:TOR?

This game is kind of annoying. Maybe I've been spoiled for too long by games such as world of warcarft. But at least that game came with a game manual. I still have no idea what valor is.

Valor is earned by doing PvP.

I'm stuck. I'm level 8, but the guy I need to kill to advance the questline is level 10, and he also had a partner. I'm on the Dark Temptations quest. I must have missed some sidequests, and I'm looking around trying to find more quests, but I can't find anymore quests. I feel like the game is unplayable now. The only thing I can do is grind on some mobs, but I don't want to do that.

Yeah, you missed quite a few sidequests. Fwiw, I always felt like the quests were actually easier than intended, and I spent far more time doing lower level quests as opposed to really hard solo ones.

Yeah there are way more quests in this game than are needed for leveling. Even skipping almost all of the group quests and not doing flashpoints, at level 41 I haven't had to do a quest that was yellow to me since Coruscant. Of course I do run the space missions every day which helps me accrue some extra XP. Holy hell the space missions are fun. My one real complaint about the game right now is that it needs MOAR SPACE MISSIONS!

I found some quests on Tython to be challenging, but it may have been a gear issue. Coruscant hasn't been too challenging. The biggest thing is fighting elites, but I didn't actually have to fight them. As a level 13, I can take on 10 elites without any trouble. My biggest thing is me being dumb. I figured the game wouldn't let you jump off the edge of the city of Coruscant, but it will let you jump off until your death. :). I kept falling, and falling, and falling... It's so tempting, how can I not do it? I also died taking on a level 13 elite and his buddies.

I did my first flash point with Esseles, It was pretty easy. I wanted to tank, but the shadow jedi also wanted to tank. It was such an easy instance, it wasn't really necessary. Although I died once somehow on a minor boss. We had 4 people too. I'm not sure how that happened. My only gripe is people zoom through the instance so fast, I don't have time to look for every chest and codex entry that may have been in there. I wonder if it's possible to stay in the instance after everyone else has left. I'll have to check that next time. I may solo it at level 15 or so to make sure I got all the codex entries. I missed some codex entries on Tython, and I'm not sure where.

I finally have the hang of orange items! I got my two highest level characters set up with moddable items.

So what is the deal with orange items. I'm starting to figure them out a little, but I'm a little confused. My brother says you can use mods, and the items are good for whatever level you are. Is this true? Can I use the same orange lightsaber from level 14 all the way to 50? (just with different mods/hilts etc. with better stats).

I picked up one orange lightsaber with good stats, but it was light side I or above, but I was able to pull 3 of the mods out of it (the color crystal also required light I or above) and used it in my current light saber.

I still wish I could find more information about this game. The wiki is very incomplete. I know it's early. But I guess I'm used to WOW with a huge devoted fanbase that updates everything quickly. Between wowhead and wow wiki you have everything you need.

I love the single player aspect of this game, but my multiplayer experiences were good, but not as good as world of warcraft instances. But I'm still early yet, maybe later on it gets better. The cut scenes and conversations actually pull you away from the social aspect and isolate you from other players. And it just doesn't seem smooth to me.

Anybody have tips on space combat? I suck :(

I did the very first mission they give you inside of your ship. There's another one available that I can't do. It's called Balosar outpost. On my 4th try I finally destroyed all the turrets and stuff on the big ships, but didn't get all the fighters for the bonus mission. I thought the mission would end once I got all the objectives, but it didn't, I still kept getting attacked by fighters and such. I tried killing enough fighters for the bonus mission, but my ship fell apart. Is there a certain time you have to get to? And I still don't know how to use missiles properly, can anyone explain how to use them?

Sounds like you're taking too much damage. There is no way to end the mission early after taking out the objectives, you have to stick around for the whole mission time, so you'll need to learn to get hit less. Move around a lot when people are firing at you. Push space bar to do a barrel roll. Remember that shields (if you have any yet?) don't regenerate while your blasters are firing, so if there aren't any targets around that you need to fire at, lay off to give them time to restore.

Missiles are easy, target what you want to shoot with it and right click, the missile will fire and home in on the target. You can also hold down the right mouse button and drag the cursor over multiple targets (up to 4) to fire missiles at all of them at once.

I forgot about barrell roll, in fact, I wasn't avoiding incoming fire at all. :) I did get one shield from the other mission, I thought it would equip automatically, but it's still in my inventory. Don't ask me how ship armor can fit in my inventory. :crazyeye: I'm not sure how to equip it, but I'll find out when I get back to my ship. And I didn't think shields would regenerate. Although I generally don't fire all the time, it makes it harder to see my cursor (targetting circle). Sometimes I lose the targetting circle and lose precious seconds finding it again. Damn 22 inch monitor is too big LOL.

I found something even more frustrating in this game. Finding holocrons. They were so easy on Tython, but on Coroscant they are PITA. I can't seem to do precise jumps. I simply suck at jumping. But as a tank I need these stat boosts. Why do they have to make a necessary game components so hard to get to? I'm almost to the point of rage-quitting this game forever. I finally got the stack of boxes after many attempts, I'm on the 3rd one right now with the pipes. And I keep missing the jumps and having to start over. What sick bastard makes you start the whole process over from the beginning? Something like this should never be in a computer game. Ever.

I'm sorry disgustipated, i enjoy your posts but your such a noob

Regarding the ship armour, you should have a "ship" tab on your character screen.

Oh, and you should see what the Tatooine datacrons are like. Everyone loves the balloon ride....

Between wowhead and wow wiki you have everything you need.

I'm not sure if you're aware, but wowhead setup and equivalent for tor, unsurprisingly called torhead. :) I expect as time goes on the wiki etc will get more filled out, information on wow is just so comprehensive because it's been out so long I think.

I'm sorry disgustipated, i enjoy your posts but your such a noob

I am a noob at this game. I fully admit it. I have much to learn. I've only played one MMO before this (well I did play Everquest 2 a little as well). Thinking back, it took me a little while to learn world of warcraft as well. I remember my noob days in that game. But that game did have an extensive manual. Even with that manual, many things you only learn from experience.

I finally got the jumps down to get those holocrons. But I still don't like it when you miss a jump you have to start all over. It took me a long time to get those. My brother mentioned the balloon thing, I don't want to think about that right now.

Oh I did notice Torhead as well. It's still a little sparce, but it eventually will get there I'd imagine.

Don't worry about the datacrons right now then. Believe me, in the grand scheme of things, the +2 they give you to stats is nothing. My character is 49 right now and I have close to 1000 cunning and endurance, an extra +2 added onto that is not going to do anything worth writing home about. The datacrons are not required to get at all.

Wow, didn't realize stats got that high. Talk about stat inflation. And I thought wow was bad.

I can't believe people level so fast, although if you've been playing since beta I guess it's not too surprising. Leveling is slow for me. Although I leveled two alts too which took some of my time, and then boyfriend duties. I'm almost tempted to say it's too slow, but not really. It gives me time to enjoy dungeons my level, and gear my level. The way Wow is now, I out level my gear very quickly.

So I made a Commando (Trooper), and I must say this may be my new main. For some reason the two jedi characters aren't doing it for me. Although I still do like my guardian, but I don't feel comfortable tanking. It's a role that I avoided in Wow except for easy dungeons I knew like the back of my hand. I'm wondering, from the talent trees, it looks like I can be a dps guardian, is that viable? I may respec away from tanking. I'm a healer at heart, and I feel like I'm going against the grain with tanking. I always feel pressured to go fast in instances, and when I don't know my way around, or don't know the encounters, I feel uneasy. It's why I only tank instances I know really well (from my healers doing them so many times).

But I must say the Commando is pretty cool. I like the combat animations of firing a gun more than the animations of a light saber. I also think audibly, commando gives more feedback than the jedi characters. I think light sabers are just too quiet, and I don't get enough audible feedback when I use my abilities. Not so with a blaster cannon. :ar15: So this may be my new main, but I'll probably still play my guardian a little. I do love force jump. It's the coolest way to enter battle. :)

heh.

I think I have this game figured out now. I went back to my guardian because my guild has a ton of commandos, but no decent tanks. So it looks like I'm needed to tank. This game in many ways is easier than WOW, so I'm not too worried about it. It's almost impossible to get lost in these instances I have seen so far. It's not like Lower Blackrock Spire. I still get lost in that place.

Space combat is a breeze now I purchased some things for my ship, and figured out the missiles.

In summary, I kick all ass. Now if only I could refrain from the urge to jump off of high platforms... I did notice you don't take durability damage from fall deaths where the screen blacks out before you hit the ground.

LOL. :p

Im still tempted to buy the game anyway, sure theres lots of content for your money, but is there any truth behind all this, like bosses disappear in the middle of a fight? Theres no floor? People die after taxi drive? Companions go crazy sometimes? Should I just wait... So much propaganda everywhere.

My Sith Juggernaut is at level 44 now and I'm hardly trying really. I already see people at 50. I have a full head helmet for her and at 45, she'll get a black armor to give off a Darth Vader vibe. I still want to find leg armor that's black and looks like it has armor pads on the thighs.

Only problem now is I'm sleeping in the evening and it's damn hard to find groups for flash points during the day.

This game seriously needs a lfg like WOW. I'm on one of the busiest servers and I can't find groups for instances? Something isn't right. I think they made it too much like a single player game. I'm having fun, but the game needs work. But I'm not having any problems mentioned 2 posts above. The game is pretty stable for me for being brand new.
