Anyone play Perpentach?

I played him only once. I don't like the civ. The only one that I don't.

I have a quick question. Loki has channeling I and II. According to a post I read here or at the wiki, that should give him a chance to gain xp every turn, but I've never seen him gain even a single xp. Admittedly, he can be quite powerful as is but I definitely wouldn't be sad to see him leveling up.

Oops, forgot to actually post the question. Is the fact that he is not gaining xp intended?

Untrue. Arcane and Disciple units with channeling have a chance to gain XP every round. Loki is apparently not an arcane type hero - unlike say, Govannon, who isn't a hero but gains experience through arcane. Also, Govannon can train people to cast spells, and they don't gain experience for having channeling (and he can't train disciples). I don't know if they closed this loophole, but in earlier editions you could train Soldiers of Kilmorph with Govannon and then upgrade them to Paramanders, making them Disciples with channeling.

So is this still true? There's no way to get experience or promote/improve Loki? He's as good as he gets at the start of the game?

OK, thanks for the info!

It wasn't that I wanted to use him for combat, but adding arcane spell promotions (I'd invented in my head that he was a "normal" spellcaster plus other things), or just generic things like mobility or medic would obviously make him more flexible. So far he mostly seems to (1) steal new cities (obviously powerful!) (2) explore safely (3) generate a little money while waiting for someone to build settlers =]

Which is fine, I was just trying to figure out what else he could do, and so far I'm not coming up with much. (I haven't been playing FFH very long, though.)

He can also cast Inspiration, which is handy for a little extra research boost early on, and adds +1 gpp for Scientist. If you happen to be running Pacifisim and you've got a science specialist then you're turning out 6 gpp/turn, compared to 4 w/o his Inspiration. Plus he only needs to cast Inspiration once, and then he can Entertain while maintaining the Inspiration.

Italics make my head hurt.
OW. :wallbash:
Anyway, I was quite frustrated when i first discovered Loki's inability to dabble in the arcane, but to quote the Illians, "what will be, will be", also, following a trail of settlers is fun. So is razing a city that sucks too bad to keep. Or playing mindgames in MP :p

I havn't even played Balseraph yet but I must say, Loki is annoying to meet in an MP game. You can't really kill him, unless you corner him, but he is fast, and he can cast Charm, so its really hard to do.

In a MP game where another player had Loki, he dispelled my Drown, so they didn't have water walking anymore. He charmed random units of mine, and explored my territory freely. I didn't like this of course, so I tried to kill him off. But that was easier said than done. I eventually managed to corner him into a coastal corner of my empire, and when he had no where left to run, he died.

Wow i still remember this game. 2007 Huh... crazy how time flies bye.

I also remember how those no longer water walking drown could only watch when those grigory ships with magi aboard fireballed the hell out of your costal cities.

My treehugging clowns celebrated the fall of every city with great jubilations and bitersweet memories of theyr fallen hero! Good times man. :)

What the hell?

I was just about to post a response to the guy that called the summoner trait useless. Then I noticed the date

This thread is two years old !

Did noone ever explain that necroposting isn't a nice thing to do?

Was about to do the same thing WarKirby. Laugh my a$$ off after I saw the date of that post. :hammer2: :twitch:
