AP-2 Suleiman's conquest (RFC)

To do:

1. Declare war on India, Ethiopia, China and Mongolia and complete the conquest. We can't declare on India for 5 more turns though.

We have troops waiting adjacent to every Indian city (including all the ones that were liberated to India). India is mostly just building Culture in these cities, although one or two cities in Japan are starting to build a defensive unit.

We have troops waiting to the north and south of Ethiopia and bombers in Mecca. Ethiopia is relatively backwards and are vassalized to China, so DoW Ethiopia also means DoW China.

We have plenty of troops in Khmer lands that could soon attack China although some need to heal a bit first. We have a range of fighters and bombers based to the south and east of China. China is easily the biggest power left and we may want to build a couple of nukes (after we learn Rocketry in 3 turns) before we attack China.

We have limited troops to the north of Mongolia, probably we should wait to attack Mongolia last.

2. Build more troops only if absolutely necessary and certainly no more boats or planes. New troops can be airlifted from most of our biggest cities to the Far East now that we have Airports. Don't forget that we have many cities building Wealth at the moment to keep our Science up at 100% though, so changing away from Wealth will slow down our tech pace towards nukes.

3. If we need to liberate any further cities, Khmer is willing to accept most of our former Japanese locations and will also accept Chinese cities and the southern Indian city (once we have captured these). America will accept any North American city, but we should only consider liberating Vancouver and Vinland (once we retake them from India). Germany will only accept London and Paris - DON'T liberate these).

Disappointingly, Spain will not accept any of the former Incan cities (currently Indian controlled). I don't know exactly why this is the case, but perhaps it is related to the fact that Spain is prepared to liberate Buenos Aires to us in the trade screen - which may indicate that Turkish culture in this city may be preventing Spainish culture from reaching Incan lands?

4. Look out to avoid a Domination Victory on the path to Conquest Victory. Check the F8 screen often. The % land area required from Domination increases as the number of civs remaining decreases. This means that it is best to eradicate one civ entirely before turning to attack another. We currently have 29.32% of land area and Domination threshold is at 38%. But this margin needs constant attention.

5. Enjoy the battles! There is an unused Great General in one of our Japanese cities, use as you see fit. It may well be possible to complete our Conquest Victory within the next 10 turns.

Screenshots and save to follow.

South America:
We have a stack of 8 infantry/cavalry units near Ullytaytanbu and one cavalry near Qusqu, ready to reclaim those Indian (former Incan) cities.

North America:
We have a tank near Vancouver and two infanry near Vinland ready to reclaim these cities from India.

Europe:
Currently wholly owned by ourselves and our vassals. We have stacks of 4 or more units in each of Paris, Mediolanum, Rome and Moscow.

Africa:
Other than a single Spanish city in Morocco, the only other cities are all clustered around Ethiopia. We have 3 tanks in Mombassa and 5 tanks in a fort near the Egyptian spawn zone.

SE Asia:
The only city not owned by us or our vassals is Chennai (Indian). We have various troops in Khmer lands as well as several loaded transports in the various island cities. There is a railroad connection to the Middle East running through India to Mandalay.

China:
This part of the map is not accurate, as Mongolia has just respawned on the current turn and many of those Chinese cities would now be Mongolian. We have a stack of troops in Japan that are about to be flipped out of the neutral tiles when Indian culture expands. Hopefully they will end up in Fukuoka. We have lots of planes based in our cities off the coast of China.

Mongolia/Siberia:
We have troops waiting next to both trash cities on the Arctic coast, ready to retake these locations from India. We have a small spread of tanks/infantry in our Siberian cities, but not enough to attack Mongolia straight away.

Lastly and most importantly, the save game is attached below.

To any lurkers out there, this is probably a good point to start from if you would like to try your own hand at achieving a Conquest Victory within Rhye's and Fall of Civilization.

In about the next 10-20 turns, I think it should be possible to complete our Conquest Victory.

I just hit "end turn" on my save to see what happens next, and instantly India vassalizes to China. This cancels our 5 remaining turns of peace with India. This also greatly simplifies the situation and takes all the questions out of how to proceed.

We need to DoW China/Ethiopia/India immediately.

We probably can't do much to China straight away other than harass them with bombers and boats for a little while though, we will need some more troops brought in via airports while we wait to heal our current nearby troops.

Mongolia can wait until after the dust settles on China. It's not far for our tanks to travel though to reach Mongolia after we reduce China to dust.

Good job :goodjob:.
The instant vassalization often happens and cancels peace treaties/defensive pacts. Very useful for conquest.
I would give India our 4 Siberian cities and then declare war and recapture them. Some of these (Brjanks and Ostrov Bolshevik) definitely need to be razed to avoid domination, although if Mongolia will accept them, go ahead and liberate them to him. (we can come back a 3rd time for these cities).
Now's the time to build some paratroopers to come swooping in after nukes. Also makes getting to those Siberian and Mongolian cities quicker (tanks take about the same number of turns as regular infantry due to the woods and desert).

Trynthlas I believe you're up.

Well, since Trynthlas hasn't checked in for a while, the next turn set is open. (I can finish it if nobody wants to do it, but I've done it so many times it's kinda routine for me)

Then I guess I'll have to finish the job

T0 - Gifted 3 cities in the north to India.

T1 - India didn't vassalize 0o, must have been some RNG thing becuase of what happened the turn earlier. Moved some troops closer to the Chinese borders, will attack next turn.

T2 - Ethiopia get their 2/3 UHV and a GA. Congress in 2 turns. We finish Rocketry and I switch to Refrigiration. Declare war on China and Mongolia (who I thought up till now was a Chinese Vassal?). I capture and raze the indy city of Kirensk, move tanks from the north towards Mongolia. Bomb Shanghai and capture it, moved troops near Wonsan and Kisi. Moved some troops towards southern China as well (they have a big stack who are blocking us in the mountains near the copper, once they'll move in on Khmer's borders we will pound them). Capture Muqdisho and the city nearby from Ethiopia.

T3 - I guess China's stack was bigger than I thought... We lose some tanks but atleast most of their stack was either damaged or lost as well. I capture and raze a small Mongolian city, moving in on their Capital. Also tanks arrive next to Sanshan and the city is bombed.

T4 - Congress: We get Louyang which is very helpful. India gets Wonsan which will also help us (weaker troops). Spain asks for Ullyantambu or whatever that city is but failed, tho this means it might accept Incan cities.
Other than that nothing.
We almost capture Men from Ethiopia (1 more cannon) and move more troops towards Beijing. Sanshan is captured with ease.

T5 - Nothing special, bombed some cities, moved more troops, only special events are the capture of Kharakhorum and Kobbe.

T6 - Declare war on India, take most of their cities except the Qusqu, Vancouver, Wonsan, the north asian cities and the northernmost city on Japan. China has 5 more cities left, Mongolia 2 and Ethiopia 3.

T7 - Capture the Indian cities, raze most of them (the useless ones). Capture Aksum and raze the westernmost Ethiopian city, only 1 remains for them. Troops keep on moving on Chinese cities.
Also I've found a scientist off to a little research in the jungle of the Amazon. (pic below)

T8 - Captured Lasa, Kisi and the northern Chinese city, also captured the last Ethipian city and the Mongol's capital, only 3 cities remain, and 2 were nuked to dust  paratrooper ready to take 1 city next turn and tanks ready to take the other.

T9 - The Chinese were eliminated  only 1 Mongolian city remains, and will be captured in 2 more turns.

T10 - NUKE 'EM TO DUST! (And burn 'em down if I dare say so myself :))

T11 - Conquered the city :D.

T12 - THE WORLD IS OURS!... Huh? No victory? Anyone wanna tell me what's wrong here? 0o

You forgot about independent Singapore. If you conquer it you'll win the turn after.

Note that you're collapsing...I liberated most of our Far East holdings and got us back into Solid.

Blizzrd played the save also and won in 9 moves.

Good job everybody.:goodjob:

By liberating more cities to India on Turn 0 you raised their "safety" threshold high enough that they didn't ask China to become a vassal. If you had waited until the start of Turn 1 (after they vassalize to China) to liberate additional cities to India it worked just fine for me.

Well done though anyways, just take out Singapore and post another screenshot or two. Liberate as required to get out of Collapsing ASAP though.

I also played on from my 1908 save and managed a victory in 1926 (ie. conquered all the cities in 1924 and won the following turn). Khmer sped things up for me by taking the last Mongolian city in the heart of the desert after I nuked the single defender - it would have taken me 2 more turns to reach this city otherwise.

On Turn 1 I liberated to India and then declared on them, recapturing everything basically straight away or the following turn. Then attacked Ethiopia and started liberating their cities to Mongolia, who accepted almost all of them as well as a bunch of Siberian. Once China collapsed (when everything south and east of (and including) Beijing was captured I then also liberated all of these cities to Mongolia too and then declared on Mongolia.

All of this liberation kept us up at Very Solid until the 9th turn when we were Stable.

I wonder though when Rhye reads this thread if he will adjust the liberation bonuses to prevent this sort of Conquest Victory achievement in the future...

What I learned:

- You can steal techs from your vassals? For cheap? Seriously, I didn't know that.

- I have never sold world maps, techs, or resources for less than 1000 gold. Never saw the point unless the return was huge, because I always assumed I would be benefiting my rivals more than me. Will do this from now on.

- I can order vassals to research certain techs? How?

- I think I understand why my economy always blows (one or two stars is typical for me.) I always knew the importance of OB, but not the importance of maps. This will improve my game the most.

- Golden ages. If there's an option I almost always pick the long-term gain over the temporary boost, meaning I always settle my GP or save them for a wonder/corporation/shrine/etc. Will go for strategic golden ages from now on.

- Didn't realize the stability penalty for anarchy was so huge (and cumulative!) I always keep trying one civics combination after another looking for a stable one. No wonder I collapse so often

Seriously, I've collapsed playing Japan with only 4 cities.:sad:

You can steal techs from anybody, but it'll be cheaper with your vassals since you have visibility in their cities (especially if you have a shrine and spread your religion(s) there and have electricity), you have trade routes with them (even if you are in mercantilism), and if you spend more espionage points on them, it'll be even cheaper.
It's kinda annoying that with no tech brokering on, you have to let them research prereqs themselves (e.g. to get to military tradition, they'll need guilds, gunpowder and music) unless you researched them yourself, in which case just sell it to them cheaply.

Max 3 civic changes before Cristo Redentor is my rule. (used to be 6 when starting GA would take away anarchy )

Isn't 4 better? Same turns of anarchy for more switches.

I mean 3 simultaneous changes, usually
1. Right at the beginning, slavery/HR AND
Organized religion or Pacifism (if you have Shwedagon Paya)/bureaucracy or vassalage
2. Free religion/viceroyalty
3. Emancipation/Free speech

I tend to leave US or police state till much later nowadays because of the anarchy (used to go to US/Free speech with a GA starting the same turn). HR is actually quite a good civic to keep because it doesn't conflict much with other civics and the penalty isn't quite as big as if you stayed in slavery after knowing democracy, while representation is just not worth the extra anarchy.
