To quote Wikipedia:

His expansion into Europe had given the Ottoman Turks a powerful presence in the European balance of power. Indeed, such was the perceived threat of the Ottoman Empire under the reign of Suleiman that ambassador Busbecq warned of Europe's imminent conquest: "On [the Turks'] side are the resources of a mighty empire, strength unimpaired, habituation to victory, endurance of toil, unity, discipline, frugality and watchfulness... Can we doubt what the result will be?...When the Turks have settled with Persia, they will fly at our throats supported by the might of the whole East; how unprepared we are I dare not say."

3000 BC start, Monarch, with most recent patch of Rhye's and Fall of Civilization BTS 1.183.

Victory only by conquest; 2/3 UHV encouraged

10 turns (+/- 1 or 2 turns if the player sees fit due to some special event)

Reloading turns on consensus (majority vote).

1. AP
2. blizzrd
[3. Crossphazer--dropped out]
4. BurnEmDown (how appropriate for a conquest game) :p
5. Trynthlas

If others want to join there's always room.

Victory by Conquest with an RFC game is impossible as new civs will continually pop up. Not only that, but you will be penalized from cities outside your historical influence. You're going to need to play quickly and incredibly well to knock out civs before they can rise, as well as ensure that you're the last one before you end up with civs across the world.

Good luck though. I'll be lurking.

I won't join, but I'll shadow everyone's moves so I can try to understand how you guys master stability so well.

I'd like to join, Monarch should be quite within my ability, and I'll play my own Turkey UHV game to get the feel of the civ.

Korias, you might be interested in this thread (for all the other conquests people have done in RFC). Of course, Rhye has seen fit to nullify my exploits but all the European conquests should still be possible.

Having recently 'discovered' RFC and thoroughly enjoying the mod, I'd love to join the team here if welcome :)

Generally play prince in normal solo games, generally do very well with it with a good SG team, and Try-03 (Monarch level) is going quite well even with the added restrictions we stuck on ourselves for it. I know the difficulties don't translate perfectly to RFC, but with the benefit of a team I think I can be a positive contributor :D

The 2/3 UHV should probably be Istanbul and vassals (we do not want smallish cities around the Black Sea).

1. 1280 We start out with an independent Constantinople defended by a single archer! And Hattusas has plenty of troops and wonders--Hagia Sophia, Temple of Kulkulkan, Sistine Chapel (as if we don't already have enough culture), Temple of Artemis, Statue of Zeus(!), Leaning Tower. Babylon only has Pyramids, while Rome has already collapsed (Mediolanum is show to have just the Parthenon). China I deduce has the usual complement of wonders (Mausoleum, Great Wall, Colosseum). Judaism is the dominant religion (Greece has the AP which is Jewish) while Christianity is only 6%. The irony is that Persia is Babylonia's vassal (good for us since we'll get another set of free troops!).

I switch to HR/Bureaucracy, Slavery and OR. 2 moves of anarchy.
Capture Istanbul (1/3 UHV done) and send most of our units to conquer Greece first. (The stack in Hattusas should flip to us and we'll get more units in our capital hopefully).
Set research to compass (goal is to beat everybody to the New World).

2. 1290 Greece recaptures an (indy?) Epidamnos. I declare war on them.

3. 1300 The flip occurs! Hattusas becomes Bogazkoy, As-Sur (which was Arabian) gets captured by a camel archer, and we instantly recapture and rename it Sur with no disorder. Artashat is also not a bad city, but unfortunately it's not on the Black Sea coast. We get a total of 12 free troops: 6 horse archers and 6 crossbows. Unfortunately the stack in Bogazkoy loses all their promotions.

We also capture Jerusalem (Kudus) which has the Temple of Solomon, no losses.

Since all of our cities have Judaism, now's as good a time to switch to Judaism so I do so.

We get the Best Defense task (need 6 castles before rifling)! :goodjob:

4. 1310 Epidamnos is captured and renamed Dirac. We kill 2 Babylonian pikemen. No losses so far: and our first great general Vercingetorix is born in Artashat. I decide to send him to Bogazkoy to build some promoted cannon.

5. 1320 Istanbul comes of disorder. Babylon collapses! A camel archer kills a pikeman but we kill it with a horse archer.

6. 1330 Greece collapses. Istanbul finishes forge (from 2 chopped trees).
Akkerman is found and reveals Lemberg just NW of the pig (but we'll get the wheat, horse, iron and eventually uranium). Kill 2 Arabian troops.

7. 1340 Unfortunately, a great prophet is born in Bogazkoy (probably from the effect of all those wonders. I had set an engineer to work to try to build the Spiral Minaret--well, maybe in 4 turns). We capture Athens (no wonders at all!)

8. 1350 We found Gaziantep 5 E of Akkerman. It's not on the coast, but it will grab more resources and land. Sparta is captured, unfortunately I can't raze it because it has the AP and Great Library. In retrospect I should have razed Atina).

9. 1360 Uneventful.

10. 1370 A great artist is born in Bogazkoy. I decide to save both the GP and GA until all our cities are out of rebellion for GA.

11. 1380 (I played one more turn to capture some cities). Spiral Minaret built somewhere!
We capture Babylon and Sirmion (Dimitrofce) which will eventually have oil.
OB with Vikings, Netherlands.

To do:
1. Capture Babili but probably leave Ninua alone for it to flip to us.
2. Capture Mekkah and raze the rest if he doesn't want to vassalize
3. Fortify borders with Germany and Russia
4. More workers for the Black Sea region
5. Don't expand into Italy--it'll drag our science down too much. Extra settler is sitting around Bogazkoy, I would use it to found New Orleans.
6. I forgot to set all espionage towards the Europeans (Persia and Arabia will probably collapse)--we need to steal some cheap techs like Aesthetics and Literature.
7. Befriend Russia (against Germany who's bound to declare war on us) until we're able to build infantry and tanks. We do not need two-front wars.

Sorry, I just bought my new 22 inch monitor for $100 (after rebate). I used to play in 1000x600, now I can do 1600 x 1000. Got to show off somehow.:)

How do you make smaller screenshots anyway?

I changed it but didn't see any congresses yet in my Turkey UHV game, even tho its been some turns since I got nationalism and traded it around with some civs. (2/3 UHV, need 2 more vassals!)
P.S. you already captured Babili :)

Turn 0 1380AD
Of the civs that we have contact with, we are first in score! :goodjob:
But our economy is in bad shape. We have 40% science and are bleeding 21gpt. We are three turns away from researching Compass, but lots of other civs already have this tech. We only have two Open Borders agreements (Netherlands and Vikings), neither of which we can trade with due to our small world map.

There are three independent triremes next to Atina which are blocking all of our trade in the Mediterranean. This is not helping our poor economy, and is actually starving Sparta.

China appears to have built Hanging Gardens, Great Wall, Mausoleum and Shwedagon Paya. (I assume Japan) has built Great Lighthouse, Colossus, Wat Preah Pisnulok and University of Sankore. Arabia built the Spinal Minaret. We should conquer Mecca for this soon.

Time for some trades.

Trade Civil Service to Netherlands for Compass + 10g. They become pleased with us. As they have 1gpt available, I ask for it and they provide it to us for nothing in return (other than 10 turns of peace).
Trade Sheep to Russia for Fur.
AnotherPacifist wants us to befriend Russia who are currently Cautious, and Russia is some way behind us in techs. So I trade the Calendar for 20g hoping to improve our relations along the way. They remain Cautious though.
Trade Guilds to Ethiopia for Meditation + 20g. They become Pleased with us. Open Borders with them.
Trade Wheat to Ethiopia for Cow.
Trade Marble to England for 3gpt.
Trade Marble to France for 3gpt.
Trade Fish to France for Pig.
Trade Sheep to Germany for 1gpt.

England already has Paper. I sell them our World Map + 65g for their World Map, hoping to open up some trade routes.

What we can now see is that espionage against England (in London) is going to be much cheaper than espionage against France. Stealing a tech from England will currently cost us 700EP whereas stealing from France will cost 850EP. I set all of our espionage against England.

Not sure why there was a request to capture Babili as our first goal, because we already have taken this city. ;)

I drop our science down to 30%, leaving our economy now at -3gpt with 31g in hand. Our stability is a bit of an issue currently also. We need some infrastructure such as courthouses very soon.

I don't know how to get attached images to appear in full, I can only seem to get them attached as thumbnails? (Help would be great here).

We need optics ASAP, a lot of civs already have compass and guilds and I'm sure France is research it.

Didn't realize our stability was so bad...one thing with playing 3000 BC is that you're often at war with multiple other civs in addition to Arabia and cities often are lacking in infrastructure until you build them.

I think that making peace with Persia may not be a bad idea until we can crush them. We need the Spiral Minaret more than Persia which has no room to expand anyway. We can always get to India later.

Part of the reason we're unstable is the lack of Judaism in our Balkan holdings. Would definitely build some missionaries from Istanbul and Bogazkoy.
