APOCALYPSE EDITION: Sons of Monarchy XII: Pacal of Maya

1S looks like a great capital site.

Spoiler :
If there's food it probably isn't 2N because that square appears rocky. Only if it's 1N2E is there any risk of moving away from it by going 1S. So I sent my Warrior NE to scout that spot. It revealed WET CORN 1S2E. Man. 1S is insane. It's even got wet plains cow hanging on on the bottom.

The neighbours
Spoiler :
are a tough crowd!

OK Deity Players, I believe I've solved the issue causing that file to crash, so new saves have been posted (apparently capitalization matters in the WB files).

Yes sir capitalization does matter, for everything... (PlayableCiv=0, Handicap=, etc..)

Spoiler :
Made peace with Alex after I laid waste to his archers on the grassland horses outside Uxmal. Here comes another early game stack from Shaka.
Spoiler :

Here's the bad result of that battle, I can't retake the city. This screws me up pretty badly.

I was able to trade for iron working with Alex and make this deal with Monty, I checked everyone else for similar offers

I'm going to pause here, still pretty worn out from the Caesar game. Maybe I'm not as screwed up as I think I am, maybe I'll continue, maybe not. It's sort of par for the course in k-mod emperor but odds are you'll only have one warmonger neighbor rather than a full map of them.

I got destroyed by this map so many times last night. It is indeed an apocalyptic scenario.

Was doing all right until
Spoiler :
Shaka stabbed me in the back for the third time. First two times I held him off, but this time I was overextended going after Monty. Big mistake. Think I may throw in the towel, or possibly start over. It's too bad, because I was pretty pleased with my game up until then! So many warmongers, haha.

No update yet:)
Spoiler :
What's wrong with you guys? Neighbors are bad but still not even close to worst; Justinianus! I was so glad when I saw that he didn't spawn in this game! Usually I'm doing fine with Shaka and Genghis! Except Monty and Toku no complaints! Btw I won the JC match and going to play with nobles!:)

With these neighbours oracling Feudalism seems like a good idea...

Spoiler :
Let us know if that works. Napoleon has marble in his capitol's fat cross and built the oracle in my game. Our marble city is not well situated, poorish land and doesn't claim more territory. I expanded toward Genghis and Shaka rather than toward the coast for marble. Then again, I got my butt kicked

Spoiler :
I was able to oracle feudalism in 1600BC. That was on monarch though... Still the longbows kept me safe until lib-MT.

@Shulgi
Spoiler :
Nappy got Oracle in my game.
We'll see if I can post my 1st round tomorrow, in xmas eve! Btw merry christmas to everyone!! I just edited my public profile page and there is over 60 visits already!

Got this one just about beat on deity, but numerous re-loads were required particularly in the opening to avoid ~1500BC war declaration and for crucial missed war-bribe opportunities. This is a great map :D

At the suggestion of Lymond, I'm coming here for my first crack at a Monarch game. I'm sure I will get schooled, but that start looks nice.

Theme music for this one.

Absolutely going to play this one later on today.

Yeah, I agree the theme music!!:D

Btw I played the first round! Start-125AD

Spoiler :
Okay I'm posting quick bc of christmas eves important things...

So Here is the place I settled. 1sq to south bc I wanted the GOLD:king:!!

Neighborhood:

Nice? At least there is my old friend Shaka! I'm doing fine with Shaka!:)

I found Confusianism! I'm confused! I remember that you guys said that convert to other religions to get allies so when Judaism was spread to my lands I converted and made Nappy and Shaka happy, and others angry:lol: I have also Taoism shrine so I wanna make some money!!! I'll attack Mongols in renessance maybe? Good plan??

I run hereditary rule and pacifism!

However here is image of my empire at 125AD:

I'm gonna have a really nice christmas! Merry Christmas to whole CivFanaticsForums!:)

Immortal - 150AD:

Spoiler :

Settled 1S like most here.
I went Agri >> BW >> Pottery to get that cheap granary up asap.
Then I went Hunting >> AH >> Writing >> Math >> Alpha. None of the known civs even had writing at that point, so I brewed me a nice pot of world war:

My 1st round didn't get any views!!!:cry:!!! I Hope that this round is more popular!

125AD-1230AD

Spoiler :
I have not made any wonders this time....:cry:

In this round I thought that I need more land and decided to make some maces and elepults to rush Genghis!

Toku peace-vasalled to Nappy, my friend and that is bad thing!! However he is now a free leader again... GOOD!

So I DoWed to Genghis who fought with Greeks and I bribed Nappy in too!

Here is some results of fight:

I took that city! And I also took their cap!

So I wanna vassalize Mongols:lol: I'll make Nappy to make peace with Genghis and then I vassalize him! Do you like that plan?

And here is save:

Some ideas for players on Monarch...

Spoiler :

1) As soon as you see the ivory, you should be considering the possibility of an ele-pult war

2) With gems, and possibly also gold in the fat cross of the capital, you want to be looking for a fast library and a fast academy. The +3 happy you can already see possibly gives you head space to hire scientists for this purpose in the capital -- alternatively you may want to hire a pair of scientists somewhere else to light the research rockets

3) You're up against a belligerent collection of opponents, but at Monarch they are tech clowns. An alternative to beating your head against them right away is to simply tech wreck them -- Liberalism -> Steel, for example, and then enjoy some experiments with death by collateral damage.

4) Shaka is a relatively simple soul - he's doesn't mind losing, so long as the human player is giving him treats and targets.

@Robert:
Spoiler :

150 AD save: You are already well past this point but since the beginning of the game is so important, I'll make a few comments on this. Most players would recommend 1 worker per city, some recommend 1.5 per city so you are a bit behind here and this is also seen in working unimproved tiles. You should adopt slavery soon after discovering bronze working, the best time to switch is often when you are moving a settler to found a city whether that is the third city or whenever. Don't whip too much, you want your cities to grow and you don't want to stack unhappiness. 2 population whips with 20-30 hammer overflow are a good starting point.

Many players seek to create a highly cottaged capitol to make maximum benefit of the bureaucracy civic. If your capitol is well-located and this one is, cottage the grasslands, floodplains as much as possible. This can make an excellent site for Oxford and Wall Street though some prefer a separate Wall Street. Production capitols are fine too. With bureaucracy in mind, it is a mistake to have settled your capitol in a location that doesn't get the gems, 1 west is better.

You don't need to switch to a religion if it is spread to one of your cities, Judaism is only in one city and you just switched to organized pacificism. This won't have much benefit unless your state religion is spread to most of your cities and will probably hurt you more in maintenance. Pacifism is great for specialists but hold off until your cities are bigger and empire more mature. Running Judaism is a fine decision if you are seeking allies in Zulu and French but it also hurts relations with the other four civs.

1230AD: Early war success is good. Crank out some trebuchets. I think an elephant+mace+treb army would do a lot of damage right now. A war time civic like vassalage will bring melee units to 5 exp which helps a lot. Don't run serfdom ever except for for very specific circumstances, slavery is better. I kind of like the idea of keeping bureaucracy + theocracy, researching this won't take long and muskets are really a big improvement on units you have now. If you found a religion, try to generate a great prophet so you can build the shrine, work to spread the religion so you can profit from it. This is a huge bonus to your economy but it is also a large investment in hammers, often worth it.

I like the idea of getting Shaka involved in a war since your border looks a bit vulnerable.
