Pennies are coins that are worth $0.01, and cost about $0.0199 each to produce (this is after the composition was changed to make them cheaper). (Minting them destroys about $60 million of value each year.)
Nickels, the $0.05 coins, cost more than $0.11 each to produce.
The lowest denomination coins that it makes any economic sense whatsoever to keep producing are Dimes, the $0.10 coins, which only cost about $5.65 each to produce. Some individuals, particularly members of congress, still have a sentimental attachment to pennies and nickels though.
$5.65 for a $0.10 coin doesn't seem like an economically wise thing.
