Or Fish...which is some places is encouraged (like the West).

Earlier today I noticed the lack of ashy foreheads. It use to be when I was young that you could tell the majority residents were cathoholics. Not so many any more the population boom in the last 10 years has brought with it a diversity that wasn't here before.

Maybe they got to the late mass.

What is the purpose of that anyway?

It is an act of repentance.

My church has Ash Wednesday service in the evening. I know several Catholics at work who go to mass in the morning and wear their ashes all day, but not very many percentage wise.

There was this one guy on campus that seemed bothered that no one else had ashes on their head. It was about 3 pm, and I was wondering where he found the time to get it in the morning.

I always think it's funny to see people with their ashes when the readings are about Jesus telling people to pray in private and not try to appear pious for others to notice...
