Ashes of Erebus (RifE's Follow-up) Download and Bug Reports

On the Dao, it looks like the spawned elements aren't finding their plots, also their leader images are missing in the dynamic trait window

I have downloaded the SVN r342 version (impressive as always). I have been playing a game as the Dao (using AoE Launcher with all default modules plus the Dao) and I have some queries.

Conjurers:
Civilopedia does not show that they can take one of the four "Ancestry" promotions. Also the "Ancestry" promotion entries do not show that they provide the relevant (upgradeable) level one magic promotion.

Sohei:
Civilopedia entry says that they have "Good" as a prerequisite but both Dao leaders are Neutral and are agnostic so, as far as I know, cannot ever change to Good. Am I misinterpreting something somewhere ?

Dao Champion unit image shows three figures lying down when stationary or moving.

War Elephant icon in the list of units in a location shown at the bottom of the interface appears as the Elementalist icon.

Can all four Elemental Shrines be built in a single city ? If so would that suppress the spawning of all types of Elemental ?

Elemental Shrines do not show on the pop-up Build List when an existing item has finished being built but they do show up as a build icon in the city screen.

Temple of Elements, Calligraphy House appear as pink squares when the mouse pointer hovers over a city bar, however the Elemental Shrines do appear.

Masks:
I have found two masks (Asmoday, Kylorin) which have different promotion icons but both have the same description: "Mask of the Coven of the Black Candle" and appear to have the same effect. In the Civilopedia there are seven different mask icons all with the same name and description, are these items going to be changed in the future ? The items can be moved around as normal but they are shown as "TXT_KEY_SPELL_TAKE_ASMODAY_MASK", etc. at the point the receiving unit tries to take them.

Hawk rebase now has a range which seems more realistic.

And lastly a request, would it be possible for top level Disciple units to restrict the spread of a different religion by occupying the other relgion's Holy City ?

Saved game if helpful:

Hi, thanks for the reports on the Dao. It was a quick port from their Orbis version, which still have more than a few bugs. It should stabilize over the next couple of versions.

-For the Masks, they are not intended to be changed in the future ( though how you'll get them probably will). They're from the Lore, seven masks made to be completely invisible. They were used by seven archmages to pull off a ritual in the Age of Magic. The seven masks look different but function the same.

For the disciple thing, i'll think about it, it's not trivial.

Thanks for your quick reply,
I have been enjoying playing the Dao, I was not sure how to get the Fire, Water, Air and Earth magic promotions until I upgraded to Conjurers with the Ancestry promotions. I got the masks from the Pyre of the Seraphic.

The disciple thing is just to stop having to keep running around firefighting unwanted religions late on in the game so is not that important.

On a different note I have recently won a Tower of Mastery game with Mechanos which I felt was an achievement, it’s amazing how useful mercenaries can be...

If ever you need someone to proof read anything, please let me know, I would be happy to help. I used to design enterprise class san attached computer storage for a living so I am used to checking documentation for anomalies.

sorry for the Dao bugs... I didn't go enough in-depth it seems.
normally you can't have all four Elemental Shrines in a single city ? they are opposed Air vs earth / Water vs fire. (normally in xml, one air-shrine forbids the construction of an earth shrine...)
Sohei shouldn't need good... it's a bug since they replace Pallies

on elemental shrines, I'm not sure how the probabilites work. but in my last game with them (orbis) the specialization sucked :
you had 4*1/20 chance for 4 elements (often spawning at the same time) (4 every 20 turns)
and with 1 shrine you had 2*1/20 of 2 elements + 1/10 1 elemental (2 every 20 turns +1 every 10 = 4 every 20)
and with 2 shrines : 2 x 1/10 = 2 every 10 turns.
.. it's the same !!
it would be better if shrines had a more important effect : *4 odds in exchange of removing the odds of opposite elementals : maybe the basic odds should be divided by 2 in order to compensate ?? (but maybe re-increased in palace ?)

best wishes

Thanks

Regarding the spawning rate, it seems academic as I have not had a single elemental spawn and I have had a number of shrines for over 100 turns. This may be due to the bug reported at the top of this page.
I haven't tried building opposite shrines in a single city but have built two non-opposite shrines. I shall try building an opposite shrine tomorrow. Maybe it would be better to limit each city to a single shrine ?

Rgds

that... shouldn't happen. maybe i didn't copy some of the files... and @black_imperator didn't know he should look for it :)

I can see how things can get missed, there are a lot of connections between the files

Re: Sohei
I have obtained all the pre-reqs for building them but they do not appear in the build list.
Looking at Dao_CIV4UnitInfos.xml I noticed that the following line is included for them:
<PrereqAlignment>ALIGNMENT_GOOD</PrereqAlignment>

I shall try removing it and see what happens...

I have to say that I am impressed with the work that has gone into AoE and its antecedants, it must be a labour of love :)

So it looks like Captain Blackheart's trait is still set as swashbuckler instead of the new demon of the deep. And in the Relentless Bombardment promotion TXT_KEY_PROMOTION_DECREASE_ENNEMY_WITHDRAWAL_TEXT shouldn't have DECREASE (but should definitely have two N's in enemy )
Also a python error is thrown up when someone with the Aphelion Amulet enters their own city

Another python error from Captain Blackheart's Drown The Crew spell

Also, has that TXT_KEY_GAME_OPTION_WB_LOAD_SCREEN thing always been in the custom game options? No idea what it does

One more Dao oddity, scrolling over a city with a Temple of the Elements reveals a pink box instead

As for the champion, I don't know if it's a proper fix, but i replaced the KFM section of their ArtDefines_Unit with the original champion's ( <KFM>Art/Units/Charlemagne_HeavySwordsman/HeavySwordsman.kfm</KFM> ) and now he moves correctly and has the Dao type skin.
- Aslo works for the Ninja using the Assassin's KFM

EDIT: Sorry looks like DolWerdd already mentioned the pink box

it would indeed be a proper fix. you got lucky though. It could have used any existing animation file and you seem to have stumbled on the good one on first try ^^ . It will thus be fixed next version too

If the Dao Crossbowman is selected as a build item the there is a repeatable CTD, it shows as a pink square in a city build list with full description. In the Civilopedia it appears appears as below if playing as the Dao:

Also in the Civilopdea for the Longbowman the Crossbowman upgrade icon is shown as a small pink dot.

The Warriormonk unit does not show an icon for upgrading to a Sohei, this may be the same issue with being unable to build the Sohei unless the leader is Good which is impossible for the Dao as far as I can see.
