Our people were hungry, thirsty, tired, and out of food. "Greetings, mighty king Sejong" says my science advisor. I looked across the terrain and saw an extremely fertile river valley that we could farm for food. I saw marble and sugar, two great luxuries that would make my citizens happy and allow for us to make great sculpture.

Our people climbed on top of the hill with sheep and settled the small village of Seoul. We had finally settled after running from barbarians. I recalled the incident were we had met another group of people like us and we together fought off the barbarians. Their leader was Wu Zetian, and afterwards we pledged our permanent, unbroken alliance to each other and went to settle Beijing and Seoul.

A team game. This should be interesting...

Our little village as well as China's continued development and collaborative research, as well as collaborative exploration and we discovered the two military geniuses the barbarian tribe Choson that we had used to live with had revered: Genghis Khan and Oda Nobunaga

We explored some more and found an ancient ruin. It contained the artifacts necessary to make culture so good that we were able to invest in our first policies.

We decided that having a traditional society, with our culture being increased in size, and our citizens would strive to expand our borders.

Our scholars, working in the palace, relentlessly tried to find ways to turn clay into pots. After some time, we succeeded, and were able to build shrines and granaries.

It was about this time as well that we discovered the 2 great cultural powers, India and Siam. We then stumbled across the old Xiongnu civilization, and found the secrets of Animal Husbandry, allowing us to detect horses that we had found in the woods, but always ran away. We also gained the methods of pasture-building, allowing us to tame these animals.

Our culture was becoming great again, and I couldn't help but marvel at the city's expansion across the lands. I decided to install aristocracy, allowing faster construction of wonders, as well as making us happier if we massed 10 Population units.

Interesting.

I would have personally settled on either the flood plains West, or the grassland hill two tiles south.

Both of those positions would have been adjacent to a mountain, letting you build an Observatory (ideal for Korean science). The hill would have given you an extra hammer, but would have taken an extra turn to settle and moves you farther from the sugar/marble/wheat.

I find that settling on the sheep is rather wasteful because you don't get any extra food out of it. Better to leave the sheep as an excellent workable tile instead.

BTW: Does Russia have a teammate? I didn't see one listed.

"Mighty Sejong" I was consulting with my science advisor. "What should we research next?" I looked at the tech plan and saw many choices. We could do sailing, and launch a simple vessel out into the water, as well as send out boats to fish, but we had no coastline. We could research writing, which wouldn't be a bad plan, it would allow us to build the great library, which would give the mighty scholars of the Jade Hall a place to go. We could also get Calender, allowing us to build the plantations necessary to improve our luxuries, such as Sugar. We also could get archery, necessary to ward off Barbarian invaders and invaders of other kinds. We also could get the ability to trap animals such as foxes, hogs, and deer, but we had none of them. We could also get mining, necessary to chop down forests, and mine the minerals deep into the earth. I concluded after some thought that getting the technology to use our luxuries was priority, so Calender it was. Many glorious, uneventful years passed in the village of Seoul until our scientists made a breakthrough. The calender gave us access to building plantations over our sugar, a stone works to increase our happiness and production, and Stonehenge to get our city following a religion quickly.

After more exploring we discovered a hostile encampment, the Chang-dao tribe, which we took over:

On second thought, I think the flood plains option would have been better than the hills. You save a turn, are closer to the luxes, and although you have slightly less initial hammers you can eventually build a Windmill which provides another valuable specialist slot for the Korean UA.

CURSE YOU STEAM!!!! I had to reload my OS, saved this game in the cloud, but apparently it was lost! Will be restarting on a new map soon.
