Ask a Part-Time Pettyologist -- THE SECOND TRY

I'm just saying, if you are a big fan of an artist and that artist is famous almost singly because of their live performances, then you can't really call yourself a true fan if you haven't seen them live.
So are you saying that I'm a "truer" Irish Rovers fan because I've been to several of their concerts, over a ~15-year period, than somebody who has enjoyed their music just as long (or longer, although I actually became a fan of theirs many years earlier), yet has never had the opportunity to see them live? What about people who became fans after the original group broke up and Jimmy Ferguson died? Are they less-true fans because it's IMPOSSIBLE for them to see the original group now?

Am I a less-true Yanni fan because I had no way to get to Edmonton to see him a few years ago than somebody who was able to see him?

Roger Whittaker did do a concert here, a lot of years ago, but alas I had no way to attend (neither the money for a ticket nor the means to get to the venue, which had no bus access at the time).

I've got a chance to see Red Green next month, but I'm not sure if I can go - depends on how the finances are. I've no idea what his live shows are like. Some people say stuff in live shows that they can't say on PBS or CBC...

The Replacements did the opening for King of the Hill, which frequently had Tom Petty as a guest star. Wonder if there's any connection there.

No, not that I'm aware of. If memory is right, T.P. started watching the show because Billy Bob Thornton suggested it to him, and then they randomly called him out of the blue to come do an episode. And then they liked him so much he became a recurring character.

I'd be happy to tell more true stories if requested.

Yes, actually, because they did not live vicariously through that music by seeing them at their very best, live.

Again, yes, because you did not make the personal, financial, and time investment that all those other people made to see Yanni. Your dedication is less than whoever attended that concert.

Suppose you don't have the finances to see a concert. In fact last year when I ran up the cost of the tickets and transportation and hotel and whatnot to see TP&HB in Ontario it came to somewhere over $1000. Not joking.

You'd go there alone?

You'd go there alone?

No, I had to include my mom in the costs as she would not let me go myself as she'd think I'd come home pregnant with Tom's lovechild or something. (At least that's the impression she gave.)

Finances are an excuse, not a reason for not going. True fans would make sacrifices to get the money.

I sold my liquor to go to a Flux Pavillion concert when I was broke, and I don't even like Flux Pavillion that much.

This is getting redundant.

If the sole purpose of posting in this thread is to say I'm not a fan, please kindly leave.

I am just wondering how a part-time Pettyologist has not seen Tom Petty in concert. Since I've seen him twice, am I a full time Pettyologist?

You're most likely a hitter. You know, those who see him just for the hits.

Actually, I also own every album of his (both solo and with the Heartbreakers) and his Live CDs too. I even have a couple of his albums on vinyl and the Anthology on my external hard drive. I have listened to Tom Petty for just about as long as you have, if not longer. But I don't have a borderline creepy obsession with him and I worked in public housing just so I could get money to see Tom Petty, since I AM a fan.

OK, then, such a fan... What was the working titles of "You're Gonna Get It" and "Hard Promises"? Any Petty fan worth their salt would know it off heart.

Terminal Romance and Benmont's Revenge respectively. Please, just because you are jealous that I am an actual fan and you are not does not mean I need a test for delusional following based on other factors like yourself.

Actually Benmont's Revenge was only one of the working titles. There was another....

As a real fan of Tom Petty (and I think that enough is clear to anyone that's not batcrazy insane) and a full-time Pettyologist, I must insist you cease and desist this witch hunt to try and play "GOTCHA!" with me. I do know the other name as well, but I'm not going to reward a non-fan with that knowledge. In addition, I humbly request you drop your title of Part-Time Pettyologist until you become an actual fan.

Get out of my thread.
