Assorted N.P. Team News

It could be a drawn game but might as well fight on. :) (re : Sashie)

I know what you mean though. Everything's harder when it's you who has to prove it (that a certain piece is "bad").

I just resigned after only 15 moves vs. psyduck in our Animal Lovers matchup (sorry team :undecide: ). Actually I think this is the only game I've ever resigned while up in material but nevertheless it looks pretty hopeless for me.

The best move I could come up with was 0-0-0 which is just terrible. I could perhaps play on for 20 or 30 more moves but my fate seems pretty certain.

If 15. ... c6 then
16. BxB NxB
17. Qc1 and I'm doomed for example Nf5
18. pxp and I either lose my queen or white get's his own (eating my rook in the process)

I played a weird game, just wanted to try and experiment & it went horribly wrong.

White played excellently, IMO, weakinging my position little by little holding the BxB threat over my head until it became too much to bear.

I'm going to try to play much more solid the next game & not screw around with weird lines.

I guess Rb8 wasn't that bad but my position just sucked. Sorry if I'm coming off as a quitter! I will work hard for the team in my other games (though I kind of messed up in the one vs. DVJ also).

Edit : I also resigned against DVJ, the position was too hopeless.

Queen to e4 & then to b7 and my knight is lost & there's nothing I can do. The game started off very interesting with lots of potential for both sides (IMO) but I just didn't play it well, I kept seeing phantom attacks where black had good enough defense. I thought I might be able to survive with two rooks vs. a queen but white's position was too much better.

Warning : I'm also gonna lose (99% likely) in my game vs. madhi82 though it won't be as crushing a defeat as the two games I just resigned. I'm down a pawn in a queenless endgame (vs. a near 2500 player).

I may just go on vacation for a month (from chess.com) after I finish my Sashie & riffraff games. I think I need the time off, I admit I haven't been able to calculate & really give my all to my games lately (no excuse of course, certainly my opposition has very strong!).

Yeah, I saw later that there were more posts on that than mine. Sometimes you just over-react. Wow, I just saw Narz's post count. Maybe you do need a break...

And believe it or not there are 28 people with a higher postcount than me.

You gonna join the match Panzar? Come on, you only got one other game going on. :) (thanks for the analysis in the other thread, BTW).

Sweet, col is playing against Eric Schiller! :D Go get 'em Colin! :D

I'll have to deny this one, until I finish a game or two. Should happen soon in my game against lovett (he predicted mate in two) and I think I'm going to win against alicorn for a perfect 2-0!:D:D

I got wiped out by Madhi (Two for the Show). His opening was a bit lackluster but I then played a series of bad moves followed by an absolute blunder & was finished quickly.

Dig up my game if you want to see an example of why to castle early!

In many ways Opening Explorer is screwing up my play. From now on I'm going to disregard any "master" move (even if it wins 100% of the time) if it doesn't jibe with my intuition. I had an opening advantage but ruined it (and set the stage for white's later tactics) by following the "book" moves.

I play a limited range of openings that lead to positions I'm familiar with.

I have a feeling my grade is going to start going down soon.

Yeah, the Noteboom variation of the semi-slav is pretty wildly different from any other opening I play. However, I do like it & like the two passed queenside pawns you can get with it if white plays normally.

I've only been playing it for a year or so now (maybe less) & it hasn't come up in any tournament games so I don't have a whole lot of familiarity with it yet.

Madhi played a rather uninspired "anti" varition against it which had the comp. rating me at -.56 (I was black) or something just seven or eight moves out of the opening. But then I started playing funky moves like f5 instead of just castling & pretty soon it was all over for me. In my lack of focus from assuming I was already lost I succumbed to an ugly double attack & resigned.

I'll try to give this guy (#73 out of 54,025 on the site!) a better run for his money this time around. So far it's a king's pawn game (1. e4 e5).

Thanks for joining guys! :) Maybe I'll join after all, I'm tempted not to take on any more games at one time just because I've been playing so poorly lately but I do kind of feel like joining (and since my rating is lower I'll be matched up against someone easier).

I accepted another team match - We chat global vs. Narz's People.

I'm not going to join but it's open to everyone/all ratings.
I locked our team but then decided to join at the last minute but it was too late, their team captain had started the match. I would have only been paired against a 1700 & have only lost against an under 1800 maybe four or five times. Ah well. Either way, I think we can take 'em. :D

Edit : remember, it's 3-days a move!

I just lost my second game against lovett via checkmate! I saw it coming, but could not prevent it! :( You are a master tactician!

Y'all caught my interest enough that I went ahead and signed up for the new match. That and a couple of other games on chess.com are the first real games I've played in over 10 years. Hope the cobwebs aren't too thick -- the default 1200 rating might be accurate after so much time off. ;)

The opening explorer is pretty cool. My extensive chess library is all gathering dust in a storage unit.

I will accept that challenge with pleasure, Narz! For our opening move, I suggest we counter d4 with d5. That's what I will be voting for.

I am one move from checkmating alicorn in our 2nd team match. I was considering entering a tourney earlier (celebrating cheater_1's leaving the site), but decided not to, as it would give me 3 more games.

Azza, I'm ready for a rematch when you are! I will be challenging you today!;)

I will also suggest we counter d4 with d5 (though I suspect Nf6 may win anyway). How do you know they'll play d4 though?
