I created this thread, for the aim to make clear the origin of Assyrian people. There are three main possibilities: semitic origin; indoeuropean origin; sumerian origin. I usually consider the sumerian origin as more plausible.
Any thought?

I vote syncretism.

The Assyrians of history, as in the Assyrian empire, spoke a Semitic language. Don't really see how, or why, we should try to push beyond linguistics here?

You probably need to expand a bit more on how you figure this.:)

Early Assyrians used a dialect of Akkadian, which is considered a Semitic language - like Sumerian.

Not sure what you mean by the roots of Assyria: you are referring to languages or what?

Probably means the ethnicity. They were probably Semitic. They spoke a Semitic language, like all the post-Sumerian peoples in the Middle East West of Iran, were surrounded by Semites and the modern day Assyrians (Syrians) are Semites. Seems likely the originals were too. I've never even come across anything that would make me think otherwise to tell the truth, but I suppose it's possible they weren't. But not exactly likely, imo.
