Atari closes MicroProse

Good bye Microprose. You made my all time favorite game, Pirates! I also spent many days hunting Japanese shipping in the South Pacific with Silent Service. Sad to see a company that made so many great products end. What went wrong?

They sold out to Spectrum Holobyte in 1993. Shortly after this many of the core people left Microprose (including Sid Meier, Brian Reynolds and Jeff Briggs (to name but a few)). I don't think it was really the same after that.

BTW Infrogames taking the name of Atari sucks. Do they have any relationship at all to that other legendary company?

Other than buying the company that bought the company that bought the company that bought the company that bought them when they went under, very little. :)

I remembered that Microprose also made Transportation Tycoon. Sad to see a good company close.

Don't forget one of the best games ever made, Master of Orion!!

This is truly a very sad event, I also grew up playing many of their great games.

They will be missed.

Their adaptation of Nintendo's Pirates taught me geography of the Caribbean and a love of sailing in RL. Games can enrich real life and make us more well rounded individuals. A pioneer has passed on.:(

Rest in peace, MicroProse. Your contributions to our lives will not be forgotten.

My favorite all time game ever has got to be Master of Orion II.
Spent so many many many hours on it, even 5 years after it came out.
Sad to see the company that made it get shut down.

Although I still think they deserve a big:

:thanx: :thanx: :thanx:

F-15 strike eagle II...
F-117 stealt fighter...
Civilization...
Covert Action...
Master of Orion...
Master of Magic...

When i'm thinking about it, most of the games i've bought has been published by Microprose. When i heard that they were closing it i was a bit shocked. But the truth is that when Sid Meier and Geoff Crammond left the studio, it was already doomed. I hope however that Infogrames uses the legendary name in some of their furure releases as they revieved the atari name.

MASTER OF MAGIC!!!! O MY GOD I Loved that game!!! ....and here I was thinking I was the only person who ever played it.. I can't even begin to guess how many hours Microprose has taken from my life... I would bet at least 1/3 of all my gaming time EVER was sunk into this companies products. May they be remembered always!!! Sasebo

p.s.- Halfling Slingers RULE!!!

Realy sad....

Got XCom :), MOM, MOO, Civ, Colonization, TT, F15II, Falcon4... Like to buy only their games... Great games...

I still have my copy, but it's unplayable because of the speed of modern machines. Still, in my opinion, the best ever Microprose game was Xcom. It's followup games were great, but the original has a special place in my heart

Get DosBOX and you gona be able to play all old DOS titles on modern computer.

I'm sad, I loved Microprose.
