Attacko's Handbook of Espionage

Two questions:

Why are people always getting down on Troy here? Several of his articles seem to be extremely insightful, focused, and well-written.

Second, does Troy=Attacko or is he reposting someone else's articles from another forum?

I haven't read any of his other articles yet, but I can tell you all with complete honesty that his grammar and punctuation are so poor I will avoid reading his articles in the future. Yes, it's entirely possible that English is not his first language - in which case, I apologize for being overly harsh. However, I have never come across a post on this forum where the grammar was this bad, and the poster was not educated in the US. People who learn English as a foreign language tend to have a much better grasp of our language than many of the native speakers

OT: as I don't have BtS, it's interesting for me to read up on different Espionage strategies. But i find it hard to believe that espionage is so powerful as to completely replace the usual unit-based attack strategy.

wouldn't "his grammar and punctuation are incorrect" be better. Here the writer is using the "i can tell you with complete honesty" - unnecessary- and one of those non thinking phrases. (what- he is going to tell us with incomplete honesty, or complete dishonesty?
Maybe he is ten years old from another country.

It's not the grammar that's the problem, it's the lack of content. In fact, I find Troy's writing quite amusing, in it's idiosynratic way; it's just incredibly weak on the strategy aspect.

There's more useful info on espionage in the Civopedia than in this thread. For shame.

There is such thing as satire. And since we have junk in this section anyway, there might as well be threads to satirize the junk.

I have been using the 'Attacko's 4-Step Strategy Plan' for just 4 months now. And I have made enough money that I am moving into a bigger house!

I had always dreamed of becoming rich someday, and now you can make your own dreams come true too!

This is why this thread belongs in the off topic forum...

In the late game, I'm finding that despite building Security Bureaus in all of my cities and performing counterespionage missions against my rivals, my cities are still getting their water supplies poisoned with frightening regularity. Is there *any* viable defense against this?

guys does attacko = troy or what?

Yes. These threads were basically a joke which got very old very fast. Not sure why they're still in the articles forum.

Guys Guys.. give attacko/troy ( what is he jenkyll/hyde) a break.
This guy obviuosly has put some serious considerations forwards.. which could revolutionize the gameplay of civ forever. Troy man .. i agree with you .. marine elephants.. the great wall .. all very underused.. im looking forward to your next article

I wonder what the mod who closed the marine elephants thread thought when he/she saw it....:vomit:

You are all correct, anyone who consistently mispells and has grammer errors cannot know what they are talking about.

Yeah, the minute I see someone making typos in their threads, I stop reading.

BTW, love your RPC's man ;)

There is just as much problematic English in the posts following the opening one as in the latter.

But, anyways, is there some kind of private understanding here, or are so many people really being such ass-holes? The guy's just trying to help.

This is a strategy forum. Not trash forum. This is not a real strategy, its just a disgrace. im surprised that mods didnt close this thread already.

A new 3.17 Random Event
Spoiler :
"An Attacko thread has popped up on the Civfanatics site.
Our advisor's inform us that we could either fund further research into the posted strategy or make light of situation."

- Fund additional research: Subtract 10,000 :gold: from your treasury, receive between 1-3 :science: towards Future Tech

- Post a hilarious one liner or other zinger in the thread: 75% chance for +5 :) in all cities for ten turns

Most adults would think being an ass-hole to someone is much worse than posting a bad thread in good faith. :spank:

This thread isn't so bad compared with many others here; you can't expect every thread here to be War Academy worthy! ;)

For the record, my own post was more of a self-mockery. My spelling and grammer has been atrocious yet everyone pretty much takes in stride (See the disclaimer in my signature). I was born and raised in New York, USA and I hold that responsible for my lack of English matery! And if English is NOT attacko's native language, well at least he has an excuse compared with me;)

I think the issue with Attacko is he sort of re-invents the wheel.

Apparently not, since so many articles in there are obsolete.

And I know it was an off-topic and asinine comment earlier, but I'll address it anyway: Building the pyramids. Building the pyramids is obviously not always stupid. In a huge map you may not be able to steal it from a neighbor. If you're an industrious leader with stone then building it will boost your economy even if you fail. Yes it's an overpriced wonder, but it's powerful too. Stealing it is ideal, but building it is sometimes a good idea.
