I seriously debated whether to say "Nobody" or "no-one" in my original post. I am not sure if the poster nobody actually plays Civ2 (or Civ1)

Yeah, it's helpful, thanks. I also found some more on this site. Civ2 shouldn't be too hard to do. The original CIV is a little more complex in the sense that it would be very tempting to just take the logo and make all letters white (see your Civ1 image: black background with white gold text). However, that would make it less recogniseable. Civ2 is easier as you can do "CII" or "C II". Smilies are organised horizontally here, and the Civ logos are with tall letters. Hmmmm..

I couldn't find any CivI boxart. I'm curious if the lettering is the same as that start screen.

Perhaps for CivI you could give it a 'pixelated' look for a more classical look?
Or something else that envokes the classical.

How about this for a Civ2 smiley? I've used the C and the I from the smiley, doubled the I and changed the colours.

It's very roughly based on the box art in the sense that it uses a reddish letter and golden numerals. I found that the original box art with the burgendy colour for the Civ part didn't match too well when shrunk to smiley size. Then you need more contrasting colours. I like the slightly reddish golden numerals. The red on the C could perhaps be improved. Maybe a contrasting line like with the logo.

Maybe to signal in their signature that they're a Civ2 player and proud of it? Same reason as we have all the other smileys, I'd say: to have a small icon to express something, in this case to liven up the Civ2 term.

I haven't played Civ2 since Civ2 game out, but as there are still GOTM's and all, there's obviously an audience. And they asked for a smiley, so I gave it a shot.

Guess it's time for a Civ4 Warlords smiley now ... Let's see if I can come up with a proposal. Perhaps something on the "C4W" with an arabic 4 instead of a roman IV. Otherwise it would be "CIVW" which may be a bit odd.
