Attn Civ 4 constant complainers

Ah, so if your copy works, that's all that really matters eh? Jolly good show!

Its not unreasonable to ask that people reserve questions about getting the game to work on their machines for the the Tech Support forum. That's why the forum exists--to keep the main ones free for interesting topics about the game itself.

Nor does it revolve around you. He's got a valid point, no one wants to hear whiney complaints.

You couldn't be more wrong - Some people do want to hear complaints. People choosing whether or not to buy the game for example. They have a right to know the FULL story, complaints and all. Do you disagree? Or do you prefer selective consumer information? This is why I think it's also important that this not be relegated to the Tech Support forum.

As for the world not revolving around me, you're right. You've completely missed the point of my post. I'm not saying others should do as I say - rather I don't think anyone but the moderators should do this. It's a logical distinction to pay attention to. You'll run across it many times when you get older.

And that's where you're wrong. If you're having a technical issue, it needs to be in the tech support forums so that PEOPLE WHO WANT TO HELP can see it and HELP THOSE WITH ISSUES.

Civ4 works better than Civ3 on my comp, despite the method of how I acquired my copy.

I concur, it is not at all unreasonable to make that request, but the thing Shaggyofwv asked for was for the "complainers" to ebay their copies of Civ IV on ebay, not a request to post on an appropriate forum.

I also don't think there's anything wrong with people voicing their opinions, but when you see a large number of threads with the exact same thing being said it gets kind of old. It's especially annoying when you're reading through a good thread and someone feels as if they have to slip in a 'This game works fine on my system' or 'The game crashes every few seconds' etc. etc. stuff.

The worst part is the nature of the complaints. I joined the forums when Civ3 first came out and eventually left when every other thread became 'This doesn't work right!'. The level of maturity in the posts declined rapidly and every thread became a damned flame war. You had to spend hours to weed through all the crap just to find a good thread. I came back here with the release of Civ4 and it's sad to see that not much has changed. :( If you're going to complain about the crashes, please use the TechSupport forum and post specifics. Don't just say 'I played the game and it crashed. Fix it now Firaxis or I'll sue'.

I'm going to sue you Jdurg!!

:p

I myself have my share of bugs and problems in the game, especially given the fact that I myself use a Radeon 7500.

However, with the many work arounds and some patience; I've found that the game is wonderful. I've probably logged in 20 games already. The only thing I've had to compromise is the rendering of AI leaderheads during trades.

True fans of the series will never be the ones to complain. Most of the complaints are coming from Civ 3 Militaristic Purists, or new players who expected an Age of Empires Turn Based Strategy because they've never played the original Civilization 1 or any of it's ancestors... For the ones who actually have a right to complain? They're the ones who're suffering from constant crashes to the desktop due to a rare case of incompatibility with certain video cards, which Firaxis has assured to fix within the near future.

Speaking of Civilization 1... I remember how it froze my 486 running on DOS 6.1 on hundreds of occasions, it was even worse when I picked up Windows 3.1. Then again... I guess true fans will never reminisce on the hard times they had due to early release bugs.

I remember when Port Royale 1 & 2 came out... I remember when Colonization first came out... Imperialism 2... Shadowbane... Dark Sun... Anarchy Online... Lineage 1.... Superpower 1 & 2... All great games that I will wholeheartedly remember, not because of their horrific and buggy starts... but because of the depth of the game that they brought.

Civ 4 has taken the place of Civilization 2 as my favorite Civilization game ever made. It may even very well take the place of my favorite game ever.
