As we all know, a great injustice has occured here at CFC. I won't name names but a certain "beholder" stole a very unique avatar from a certain "mean, old bastard."

Not only does this create confussion among posters, but it (possibly) slanders the name(s) of (a) certain individual(s).

Cleary a trademark system must be developed to ensure that this sort of thing ceases to repeat itself in these parts.

P.S. I am on a lot of painkillers right now, so I apoligize if most of that made no sense.

The "mean, old bastard" should contact the "beholder" directly over PM.

There is no way we can prevent poster to use the same avatar as another poster... (enlighten me if you know a way ;))

For example, right now a certain individual who is posting right now could change his avatar to a certain type of ship used in certain battles in a certain second war, which is available with the research of a certain technology in a certain era in a certain third game in a certain series of games made by a certain famous game designer whom we shall call S.M.

Beat that :D

I know there's one other poster (maybe more I haven't seen), Jorge(sp?), who uses my AEGIS Cruiser, luckily they are very inactive, in fact the only time I've seen them lately is in an old Chess game...

Avatar-stealing could always be made a ban-able offence :mischief: ;)

i think i "stole" history buffs avatar but i only noticed afterwards and couldnt really be bothered to change it

Could someone PM me the names of these people as I haven't seen anyone who as obviously stolen an avator lately.

Kind of silly to steal Floppa's avatar.

As was sugested, we could punish people who do that.

Hmmm.... I wonder if I should take AoA's avatar. People might respect my posts. j/k

I dont think it's that big of a deal myself. Yall can use my avator if you want. ;)

It wouldn't work for anyone else.

In my not-so-humble opinion, custom avatar-jacking should be a forum crime. There is nothing to be done about avatar overlap with the site avatars, but there is absolutely no excuse for nicking someone else's custom avatar.

I wouldn't actually take your avatar, due to respect. Now I have another reason not to take it. Luke is fine with me, anyway.

What exactly is the big deal with taking other people's avatars? Maybe your posts could get confused or something? If this is a big problem then Thunderfall could easily revoke the privledge of custom avatars for good for everyone because they couldn't take someone else using their avatar. The board avatars are pretty good as they are.

I still don't see you as a French Musketeer...I always think you are that guy in the Civ3 fora that has a web page with a lot of his battles....damn, I cannot remember his name!

It would be a little unfair if people could be banned for using the same avator since they might not have seen that someone was already using it. The system would work better if the original owner of the avator had the choice whether to complain and if they did then a Mod could ask the new user of the Custom avator to remove it. Then if it wasn't removed in a week, they could be banned.

Some custom avatars take a long time to find or modify. It can be understood it's an accident. In the case of floppa's avatar, it did look very similar out of the corner of the eye.

I think that revoking custom avatars all together is a pretty strict. We only have one person doing this ( :mischief: ) so I don't think it's all that problematic. But when you have an avatar for so long and it defines your personality, it's not a very ncie thing to take it away and make it your own. :p
