Isn't she a beauty?

This is a older model of mine I just finished up today.

A little history:
You non-Canadians may wonder what the Avro Arrow is.

It was a Canadian built aircraft that was well ahead of it's day.
Unfortunately, it was canceled near the end for various reasons that have come to light, and with much controversy

It's main purpose was to intercept Russian bombers if the Cold War erupted openly. They were the main threat as they carried Nuclear Weapons. By the time of it's cancellation though, ICBM's had surpassed the bombers as the main threat, and fighters would not be able to intercept them.

That is one of the supposed reasons of the cancellation, as the US market was gone.

Another hypothetical reason for the US governments opposition to it was that it was the only aircraft at the time that could get high enough to check out what the US Spyplanes were doing.

It is hard to believe that this aircraft was approved in '55, and being built soon thereafter.

It could be used as a flavour unit for Canada maybe?
Oh, and yes, aircraft are much easier than ships, but I am not planning on doing too many, there are lots already. :)

Not bad! A good choice for a new unit definitely!

If you want to make it better, it looks like there's a split down the length of the model. Merging the 2 sides would help a lot I think. The exaust section (the rear of the 2 engines) also looks a little off - make then 2 cylinders instead of 1 fat one. The texture is also a little washed out - tighten up the contrast/brightness a little. The engine intakes would look a lot better (and be more noticable) if you colored them black.

Keep it up! My family is Canadian (though I was born in the US), so I can definitely appreciate this aircraft!

Very nice unit, great detail!

Thanks you.

Cool, I never knew you were part Canadian. :P

Yes, it was two halves to start, and I merged them.
I will try to do all that, I agree they would make it better! The "washed up" Bit is as I had to expand the thing, but did try to fix it (You should have seen the original emblem on the wing).

Nice work GM.

Ty. :)

Good job. It's great that you have done this canadian beauty.

Aircrafts are my love and I don't think it will be too many of them ever.;)

Nice plane GM and good to see your expanding your skills into aircraft as well.:goodjob:

Thank you. :) I am glad you think the Arrow was a Beauty too!

 Well you could say I expanded into watercraft. When I first started modeling for Civ 4 this was the obvious choice to learn with. Not to hard to model, not to hard to add to the animation (No turrets etc).
I just never finished her.

To all: I forgot to mention the my Grandfather was a technician on the plane, that is why I am interested in it a bit. Plus, not 20 minutes away is the statue of the thing in honour of the one test pilot (I forget his name though).

Also, I already updated it some, will release a new one tonight if I can. :p

Ok.. updated it with the suggestions Smitty made, and I like them even better!

Uploaded the new version, and updated the pics.

So I updated these:

Front Windshield
Air Intakes coloured black
Exhaust now two instead of one
Sharpened the image some aka/contrasts
Worked on the wing decorations a little.
Merged the two halves entirely so there is no seam down the middle.

Yes, she looks better now!

Thank you.

I can't understand why they would scrap the project, I mean even looking at here she is stunning, I love that White/Red colour scheme.

It turns out my dad was born when my Grandpa was working on it. It is too bad I never met my Grandpa (Died 2 years before I was born) or I'd have a ton of questions.

Cool! I though that if someone were to create Canada civ then the Arrow would have to be the unique unit, although since aircraft weren't that interesting without promotions it would be the least interesting unique unit. BTS should fix that, but I can't really think of a unique building. Maybe a Hockey arena replacing the coliseum and adds one happiness for each tundra or ice tile in city radius? It's not too representative, but the mall and stock exchange aren't really unique to America and England either.

Awesome!
I've been waiting for someone to make the Avro Arrow.
Granted, I won't be doing anything with it... but it had to be done.
Gorgeous!

Do a Barrel Roll

Hmm, you lost me with that one, you want me to do a barrel roll? Hmm..

Edit: Oh you mean in animations? Sorry, I haven't actually figured out how to do them with Blender yet.

:p Too bad I didn't see that joke!

Edit: 1,000th post. :)
