Axis & Allies

I must have an older version, because there's only five different countries in mine (USSR, Germany, UK, Japan, USA) but I got it as a Christmas present when I was nine (Yes, nine:p) so I don't know WHERE I got it. I haven't played it in awhile though. But I still enjoy it when I do get someone willing to commit so much time.

10 players?

UK, USA, USSR, France, China vs. Germany, Italy, and Japan....What are the other two countries?

I looked it up. ANZAC is on Allies, and the UK is split between UK Pacific and UK Europe, which are two powers controlled by the same player, but with separate economies and special rules regarding what may be deployed where.

Since the Global map takes place in 1940, neither the US, USSR, or ANZAC are at war with anyone; Japan is only at war with China, and UK and France are only at war with Italy and Germany.

There will be an Axis & Allies Global 2nd edition coming out with some updates this summer or fall, so if any of you plan to purchase the Global version I would just wait a while till the 2nd edition rolls out. I swear I saw you could have up to 10 players? Regardless, 9 players is still a lot though and I like those options for big gaming sessions with lots of people. I know some versions of the game had China being run by the U.S. or other arrangements. I never liked that though. I like each country being separate and playable. I also saw a home brew game that included Poland so maybe I'm confusing all the variations of the game.

I got this board game a while back. I haven't really learned how to play it because I don't have anyone to play against. :(

We definitely need to organize an online game. We should also try to organize a meetup game at a physical location if we can get some members together sometime.

I'd love to play it, but the problem is finding others to play with.

This.

If you are fortunate enough to have a gaming store in your area, they often have board-game nights. That can be hit or miss for Axis and Allies, though.

Much easier to find a game online.

Perhaps we could run something in the NES threads? :mischief:

A while ago I played a game of Risk all the way until all the world was conquered, and I came second. One of the players said that it was the game with the most strategic depth, but I didn't think so because it seemed like it only relied on luck. How well does Axis & Allies compare to Risk, and is there more to do in the game?

Much, much more strategic than Risk, although there is still quite a lot of luck involved.

I remember my brother playing as the Nazis totally steamrolled about 30 of my Russian conscripts and only lost about three tanks... he attacked with maybe ten of them, a couple fighters and some infantry.

Bought it in about 1989 or so. Bought it with paper route money at Toys R Us. Sold it and an extra pieces set in 2008 when moving to a guy that had never played it before, but was in some kind of board game club. Played tons of games up into my mid twenties.

I actually remember my last game, playing a guy who loved it, I still got an adrenaline buzz from one of the battles.

The man with the bullets follows the man with the rifle, when the man with the rifle dies, the man with the bullets picks up the gun.

So far our players list consists of illram, Ayatollah So, cardgame, and me.

We could use one more!

As for the 10 player version, I've never heard of it. Anyone have a link?

I think it's night and day different. Much more strategy involved. We sometimes play every country against all, take over the world style, which makes for some interesting alliances if you allow them. You could also play the suicidal version of no alliances, all against all. Traditional Axis vs. Allies is also fun.
