The anti-western fervor of the Iranian revolution got quite a bit of fuel from the USA (CIA) and British joint overthrow of Mossadeq in 1953. In fact, the idea of holding the USA embassy hostage stemmed from the USA's use of their own embassy to plan the coup against Mossadeq.

Any kind of government overthrow, direct or covert, will merely fan the fires of anti-western hostilities.
