AZ-05: Dan Quayle Challenge

Might want to throw another worker into the queue and get that gold mined as soon as the city can work it. Finish Writing 1 turn before The Oracle, grab CoL, backfill The Wheel and Pottery, then head for Monarchy while waiting for the prophet?

This seems reasonable, I would like to get first to booth confusianism and theology and this seems to be the safest plan. Beelining it without the oracle and bulbing might put us to far behind.

well my drinking was posponed for an hoour or two so i decided to get the game going.

turn1: founded new york-->monument

turn2: washington completes warrior, he scouts the southwestern coastline-->worker

turn6: research priesthood--> the wheel (i wan't to hook up the copper)

turn8: scouting warrior gets eaten by bear, goldmine near new york finishes, it will be worked next turn when new york grows to size 2

turn 12: find fredericks borders, who until now has only met hammurabi

Civ4ScreenShot0005.jpg

turn 18: writing completed, set research to animal husbandry to hook up the cows in new york.

turn 19: oracle completed. I choose to christian the american people, founding christianity in New York. i set construction to a settler cause i feel that we should start expanding our great american nation. perhaps find some nice land where we could grow a potatoe or two. also we should get that copper hooked up, i decided to give priority to connect the gold to washington to let it grow one more size.
oh and stonehenge bidl.

so i decided to play only 19 turns, i felt really exhausted after constructing the oracle. and i don't know what to do with our missionary, i think we should make use of writing and get some open borders and christian the heathens. Ramesses and pericles have also founded religions but perhaps we could make friends with frederick hammurabi or joao.

Not a very eventful turnset. Animal husbandry is in, as is pottery, masonry, iron working. Monotheism is also in. Hinduism founded somewhere else. Theology will only take 17 turns to research, whereas the GP will take longer to be born. I've queued up a temple that can be whipped after the current settler if we want to hurry up the GP production in Washington. I don't think we're in any worry about losing the theology race though. Research is currently set for alphabet (minimal beakers invested).

I founded Boston to the south on the river. I suggest founding the fourth city up the same river to the NW. We can probably fit two more north of New York and that should be enough for most of the game... Unfortunately the barbs have founded a crappy city.

Since I couldn't find a better picture:

I've never professed to be anything but an average student.

haven't looked at the save, but i'd say get some more units and settlers built to finish off our expanison.
research alphabet and use the GP to bulb theology is my suggestion.

the barb city has to be razed and refounded at your sign or perhaps one west of that.
perhaps we should build a city next to all the sugar and rice, but to make that worth the effort we need some more workers to clear the jungle.
i would like to pick up meditation build some monasterys and missionaries as well and get to preaching christianity or are we aiming at adopting one of the other religions?

maybe lower the research slider a bit. it's always nice to have some cahs if there's a random event that requires it.

I played 20 turns to ensure we got Theology first.

Turn 0 (80): We're in no hurry to grab Alphabet so I drop research to 80%. If anything we need more workers, so I order up one in Washington. We lead in exporting workers.

IBT: We meet Augustus.

Turn 1 (81): New York has whipped the lib and starts on a couple of axemen to take out that barb city. OB agreed with Augustus. We might want to align ourselves to Pericles. He dislikes Ramesses, Frederick, and Hammurabi due to different religions. We're at +1 with everyone at the moment. Ramesses and Freddy have a powerful religious bond going on.

Turn 4 (84): Scythian has three archers for defense. Philadelphia founded on the prescribed spot.

Turn 5 (85): Joao converts to Judaism. It seems to be becoming the world religion. This means Pericles might become an outcast. Troublesome...

Turn 7 (87): Roman ambassador commits a faux pas against the Germans. Hurrian has three archers in defense too. I'm pumping out axes to take the barb cities before the AIs get whiff.

Turn 11 (91): As soon as we get Alphabet, Hammu and Freddy rush in to demand CoL. What the hey, Dan Quayle doesn't quibble. Now they're both Pleased with us. The US government never says 'no' to the Jewish lobby. :p

I trade Meditation from Joao for some 1st tier techs. Monarchy next, I rush a temple and hire a priest in Washington to try and accelerate the GProphet. We're in danger of losing Theology to someone. Most everyone has Writing and Monotheism by now.

Turn 12 (92): Extra priest now gives prophet in 7 turns.

Turn 17 (97): Buddhism has spread to America.

Turn 19 (99): Prophet pops and immediately lightbulbs Theology. Islam is founded in Philly.

In order to build the AP, I convert to Christianity. Once it completes we should switch away to avoid angering our neighbors. Seems they don't like gentiles.

Turn 20 (100): Phew, none too soon. Ramesses pops a GProphet one turn after us. AP due in 18 turns.

How we stand: flatfooted. Four axemen are approaching Hurrian with plans to take and raze the city. Our born-again conversion caused some diplomatic rifts with the Jewish lobby, but we can convert back after 18 turns. Monarchy is 1 turn from completion. It's time to start planning which (military) techs we need and where in the tech tree we're going to stop. The AIs are not yet aggressively spreading into our lands, so that's a bonus. I would limit the spreading of Xtianity for now, there's no hurry. We don't want it to spread prematurely. Whatever you do, don't build the Church of Naivity. That starts to spread Xtianity by itself.

got it, but perhaps won't be able to play till Wednesday (depending on homework situation after tomorrow)

Take your time, but in the meanwhile I'd like some discussion instead of 48 hours of silence. This won't be a very intensive game as for the actual turnsets, but we need to plan carefully how we're going to survive until 2000 AD and eventually grab victory while lodging at the bottom of the score table.

yeah, i won't be able to play till Wednesday definitely so if anyone else wants to play before then, feel free to take a swap.

as for discussion:
AP is useless unless we spread Christianity/Islam like crazy or convert into something else. using the AP, i feel we should create religious wars to weaken teching in opponents. in this way, we can hopefully drag the game out to a long sustained conclusion. also, i don't know if we want many more cities because if we go for UN, we want small land area in order to achieve low score.
