AZ-05: Dan Quayle Challenge

I'm really busy right now. probably can't play until Thursday so I think I have to ask for a swap or skip, sorry for not letting you know this sooner. I just haven't had the time to monitor the forum.

How come we are building a university in phoenican when it generates 4,5 :science:?
when we could build a jail which would increase the espionage points with 50%?

trade mission in Rome nets us 2100 pieces o'eight.

Pericles completed Manhattan project, he also demanded that we cut our deals with Hammurabi I declined, he's still in friendly after the demand.
I netted the whales for some extra happiness.
I set some cities to wealth, we have quite a lot of rifles and we look ok in the powergraph.
I also put a spy in every city and some extra, I don't think we will be sabotaged but I felt i couldn't do any harm and we might want to use them later on for some sabotaging of our own when the spacerace starts. Don't forget to try and get the 50% stationary spy bonus.

Somehow augustus and frederick doesn't love us like they used to :

Score for winning this turn is down to 36728 so it's going in the right direction.

hahaha. Did you see the movie for TMNT? I thought it was hilarious. A great throwback to the 80's (I think that's when the original movie came out).

Azaris - do you want to extend the turn set length to speed things along? I think it's a lot of hitting enter at this point unfortunately.

Turn 2: I vote us the head of AP. Frederick adopts Free Religion. Finally.

Turn 4: J.S.Bach is born in Boston. We don't need a Golden Age so I send him to Scythian to ease the cultural pressure.

Turn 6: Ramesses completes Apollo.

Turn 10: Hammurabi completes Apollo.

Turn 14: Frederick completes Apollo. I guess the AIs have decided it's time for the human race to enter the solar system. Mining Inc incorporates in Nippur. I spread Xtianity to Essen. Frederick has 9 votes against our 182. :pat:

Turn 15: New Yorkers are running with bulls. You get a lot of experience dodging the taxis. Or maybe this was another TMNT reference? :ninja:

Turn 16: We win the AP vote again. How many members do we need for things like embargos and holy wars to become available? Three? Hurry up and embrace Free Religion, silly builder AIs.

Turn 17: Hammurabi adopts FR. I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and democracy - but that could change.

Turn 18: We pop a Great Spy. He starts Scotland Yard in Washington.

Turn 19: Xtianity spread in Mari. Hammurabi has 7 votes.

Turn 20: Somebody built the UN. I vote us for the General Secretary. It's Pericles what done it.

Turn 21: Played an extra turn to see who wins the vote. It's... Pericles. He gets 521 votes, which would be enough to win the game. He won't win though, since only Joao will vote for him (Hammurabi voted for us). Ramesses completes 3GD.

We are 2nd from bottom now with of 31% iMaxScore (Ethelred the Unready) and 29439 from winning this turn (still Augustus Caesar). Suggest we start starving the cities in a while to see how far down we can push the score without risking our win.

Here is an Excel spreadsheet which computes the scores shown by the game. Yes, I'm sad enough to sit here on a Sunday creating spreadsheets for playing CIV SGs. Wanna make something out of it?

You can play with the raw numbers shown on the leaderboard and estimate how low we have to go. I realized I don't have the actual formula for computing iMaxScore available, but I think if we have 3500 points at the end that'll be enough.

Tycoonist is up. We have moved to 20 turn sets.

If we hold an AP vote, we'll be the only candidate right? If so, we can probably gift away our cities at the end (except for the AP city and the capital). Pericles will vote for us so he'll be an ideal person to gift the cities to. As long as he doesn't adopt the religion, we should still be ok.

sorry guys, i had a choice between which to play tonight and i flipped a coin: it said random, so i will play tomorrow

BtS v3.13 change list said:
Can't vote on a winner if one team already has all the votes necessary to win

I hope everyone already figured out that because of this we have to finish the game on 3.02. Which brings us to me really wanting to get this game finished. Shuyhe or NoChildren, grab the save if you can and let's roll.

erm. I just installed 3.13.... I will need to dual-install so somebody else should play before me since it might take a day or two to sort it out. I think we can win an honest to goodness diplomatic victory if we set up the correct opponents too...

shyuhe how's it going with that dual-install? should I take it instead?
I'm really busy right now with exams coming up, but i might find some time to squeeze in a session, but I can't make any promises.

OK. I went ahead and finished the game in 3.13. Record, Dan Quayle. Time, 1971 AD. It was a pretty close game though.

I took the last save and gifted all of the cities to Pericles. I then spammed Christian missionaries to the other civs (Joao in particular who was still friendly with us). I then went on to adopt representation - Pericles' favorite civic. I pressed enter a lot, until I got a nasty war trumpet sound. Pericles had declared on Hammurabi, thus activating our DP and half the world declared on Pericles as a result (including us!). I moved the 5 rifles I had left to protect WAshington but Pericles just sent bombers at us destroying our terrain. Eventually, he was willing to talk for peace - I just gave him 160 gold. Unfortunately, he had adopted police state and free religion as a result, and he was cautious. Thankfully, Ramses eventually put forward a diplomatic victory vote with the UN and I voted for Pericles - giving us a +2 you voted for us modifier with Pericles.

Pericles was back to pleased and I bribed him with over 1k gold into representation + organized religion. This put him back into friendly territory. I then waited past one more AP vote. Ramses was just one piece away from finishing his spaceship (I believe it was the stasis chamber) at which point I couldn't hold off any longer and did the religious victory vote. We won by a landslide courtesy of Pericles and Joao.

I've attached the turn before the victory for anybody who wants to see it.

Our final city had a pop of 1
