B02: God is an American

Looking more closely at the map we will probably want to hang loose 'til we get to the river and floodplains in the north. Makes a nice natural boundary for our exoansion phase.

And the incense up there would be awesome, considering he might be alone in this world

Pre-turn:
- We have 23G, -2gpt, Alpha in due 2.
- Change Washington from settler to granary.

T1 3000BC: Alpha comes in during IBT, set research to Writing.

T2-T3 2950-2900: zzz

T4 2850: Russia knows TW.

T5 2800: Meet Germany, they are up BW but down Mason, Alpha and Pottery.
- Trade Pottery for BW and 10G.
- Bismark knows IW too, trade Alpha and Mason for IW (he would get both from Russia soon anyway).

<IBT: Washington granary => settler.>

T6-T7 2750-2710: zzz (Germans are building Pyramids).

T8 2670: Learn Mysticism from goody hut.

T9 2630: Meet Japan, they are up TW, down Mason, Alpha, IW and Myst.
- Trade Mason and Alpha for TW and 20G.

T10 2590: zzz

<IBT: Washington settler => archer.>

T11 2500: I took an extra turn to even out the turns. Heeding the comments of the venerable Bede and others, the settler and escort are heading to the site N-N-N of Washington. I guess they could go N-N-N-N too (per MP's last dotmap).

- We have iron nearby, but I see only one source of horses on the map. We are in good shape with techs. (up 2 on all civs. we have met so far).

Probably the wheel.

Looks like we'll be fighting swordsmen wars against russian horses ... that's cool with me :whipped:

Yeah, TW = The Wheel. At least we can build Zeus and get some ACs rumbling around. :cool:

Looking good.

Got it.

I won't be able to play for the next 3-4 days, so please skip my turn if it comes up during that time.

:gripe: Washington should never have been allowed to drop to pop1. It cost us being first to Writing which I ended up having to buy from Russia for 128g after the witch of Petersburg had extorted 28g from us [pissed]

Changed the build at Washington to a warrior for barb control in the south and north, and built another warrior then a worker trying to get population and shieldsto balance a little better.

The waiting settler built Boston on the coastal hill, a little closer than I would have liked to New York but otherwise there was no way to get water to those plains and get the iron inside the border.

Washington is now working on a barracks, New York on a barracks and Boston on a curragh. After the barracks Washington should build at least one more warrior, grow to pop 5 then build a settler if it can be done on the same turn as growth to seven. I think we can work a six turn warrior/settler routine at pop5-7 but I'm not sure. The lack of a food bonus is not helping here.

I would not be in any hurry to hook up the iron. Let's get some vet warriors built first.

The research is set to Philosphy at max due in 14. Both Germany and Russia have Writing, Horseback Riding and Mysticism Iroquois and Japan lack Writing. Iroquois Horseback Riding and Mysticism. I don't see any promising trades until we get to Philosophy as the rest of the world either knows what everybody else does or has no money.

Revised map (Blue lines are irrigation paths. Red ovals suggested town sites)

Let's wait to hook up the Iron until the expansion phase is done. this way we can survive with cheap mp's. Our lack of food bonus really hurts. Did we ever get the 2nd granary built in NY? I think we need one.

@bede: how many turns were we away from writing? Why'd we have to buy it?

IIRC we were a half a dozen or more.

I bought because I could do so cheaply (@3rd with beakers invested) and I wanted to get on with Philosophy.

If we get Philo, what should be the free tech?

EDIT: Code of Law for Republic, or something good to trade like map making(AIs love map making :p ).

Personally I prefer Construction or Currency, but Map Making is good, too. And sometimes you can get all of them, including Code of Laws if everything breaks right.

sorry about the pop thing.
thought we needed another settler asap, without thinking research. :blush:
i would go with the upper red oval, and call it HooverVille.

currency is my favorite too. were in no rush to anarchy.
we shouldnt hook up the iron yet. well upgrade later, and seems like no wars in the near future.

*cant stop the TMNT references. will try and go cold turkey on it.

Will try and play tonight

1st off, isn't barbs on sedentary? I don't think we need warriors on barb patrol: given there are 2 expansionnist civs, which are us and Russia, right by our borders, barbsshouldn't come to be a nuisance.
Then we also need not make 2 barracks this early and I change NY to build a granary, with a chop boost.

So here it goes
T4:
Washington rax->warrior

T6:
Washington warrior->warrior, Boston curragh->Granary.

T8:
Washington warrior->settler.

T9:
NY Granary->Palace (placeholder, change it to anything you see fit, probably a barrack I guess - we need the extra gold our population gives right now)

T10:
Philosophy falls right in for the shift.
All but Iroq know HBR, Russia knows Maths.
We could get philosophy, use it on the big screen to buy maths and take currency as our free tech, or take CoL for a faster republic, or anything else you guys can think of.

Not much else to say. The more I keep scouts going the more I'm convinced we are just us 5 on the continent.

Canadian newfies out
