I'm not new to Civ5, but compared to what I see in these forums, I'm not a very good player. I probably lack focus when comes to research, as it always seems like I need everything...same with policy I think. And I definately fail to grasp the underlying synergies of a civ's special attributes and how to maximize them.

I've never come close to winning a conquest game above Prince, and I would really like to see a "walkthough" of first 150-200 turns that will show me how to focus on my goal.

I like large or huge maps, usually fractal, and generally enjoy long games. My 1st win on King ever was Venice/diplomatic, but anything above King and I fail to win.

Thanks for input...these forums are awesome (kinda huge and intimidating also ;)

I thought I was a good player until I came and started reading these boards. I would first research the techs that I needed to improve my luxury resources, maybe get composites and then worried about libraries. I usually wouldn't build the National College until late.

When I read these boards though people were big on getting libraries in their cities as fast as they could and then building the NC. If you do that your science will skyrocket and if you don't you will lag behind. Now it's almost impossible for me to lose an immortal game.

The best advise you can get would be to build 3-4 cities and get libraries up asap. I mean research pottery -> writing every single time no matter what. After that research the techs you need to improve your landscape and then get philosophy. Build that National College as soon as you can and you will notice a huge difference.

It's easier to warmonger when you have crossbows against their warriors and composites.

Play it as if you were playing for science... get X-coms and national intel agency (or play as England); drop a spy in all capitols... call down and take.
This will finish the game almost instantaneously on a 6-player map
If you have sight onto their capitol already (via CS allies or whatnot) then no need for spies. Just call down where you have sight.

Thanks for the advice... am reading through Tab's 4-city tradition guide and can't wait to start a new game :D

Are there any guides that show how to capitalize on a civ's strengths? For example, I was just playing Indonesia...the Cris Swordsman looked nice, and 2 new lux resources sounded great. So I focused on getting compass so could send settlers across the ocean, and tried to use swordsman to take a couple Polish cities.

Long story short, things didn't work out real well. I tried a search for tips on playing Indonesia, but didn't find anything easily...

thanks :)
