So I have an Intel 82852/82855 Graphics Control and using Intel Extreme Graphics 2. Civ IV works on my computer but it plays for a sec, pauses, plays, pauses, etc. It's not too bad since this is a turn based game but I'd like for it to run a little smoother. I have tried everything below to try and increase the speed but nothing is working....

1. Smallest resolution
2. Low Graphics settings in Civ IV
3. Set everything in OpenGL to off accept for the two compressions
4. Created an image of the game and run it off the harddrive instead of the CD

CAN ANYONE THINK OF A WAY TO GET AROUND MY CRAPPY GRAPHICS CARD THAT I HAVE NO WAY OF CHANGING SINCE IT'S EMBEDDED? I'm desperate! I love CIV but how can I truely enjoy it with the bad graphics.... Thanks ya'll

You should be able to add a better graphics card anyway, alot of motherboards with onboard graphics still have an AGP slot for video cards. You might have to disable the onboard video by changing a Bios setting to get the system to use an AGP card.

What is the brand/model/etc of you computer, if that was known then it could be found out if you can add a graphics card.

Your card is not very good, ehm, but I belive slowdowns are not related to it's core performance.

Note: I believe Civ4 uses Direct3D, not OpenGL.
