I'm playing Civilization: Call to Power 2 right now, just got it. I personally don't like it, when compared to Civ2. Civ2 is just so much more streamlined...

Not to be the CTP advocate on this site but if you've played Civ for a long time it does take awhile to get used to it. Geez, Activision should probably at least buy me a beer

don't you think?

Truthfully, haven't played CTP 2 yet (decided to let someone else get it for me for Xmas) but it took a long time for CTP 1 to grow on me. Still love Civ 2 but CTP is a fun change of pace.

Agree. It was a bit annoying to see some reviews say "CTP2 is obviously a better game than Civ2". CTP2 may be better in graphics, but Civ2 appaarently has the best gameplay.

The Mayors in CTP2 are poor but the cities can grow to fill your territory and roads can be built anywhere in your land - massive improvements. But the BEST thing about CTP2 is that it doesn't hurry through periods of poor technology, it grows 2 years at a time all the time. I've had tanks for 200 years now and I still haven't got War Walkers. Civ2 needs an update now... If you choose to continue after vanquishing all the people on the planet the advisors tell you to go and find some other civs that don't exist - messy.
Sorry, one more thing. The zdnet review is patently wrong about a couple of things: The workers on a tile thing was available in CCTP and the number of units that could fight together was 9. Now in CTP2 you have 12 units per tile (excluding cargo) and you HAVE no lost the 'micromanagement' of workers on tiles within city areas of influence.

I have cctp 2 and it honestly stinks. It is the definition of ugliness. Later on in the game, everytime you end a turn, it takes about 10 minutes for it to simulate the other civilizations' moves on my computer (200 mhz). Civ2 is much better because you don't have to have a good computer for years of good gameplay. You don't get the right "feel when you play ctp2. What the hell is public works anyways? the only good thing is that you have building queue in each of your cities and you have this national view thing where you can select all your cities at the same time and tell them all to do something instead of going to each of them. It serves activision right for trying to alienate the name civilization.

They didn't alienate the name Civilization. They lost the right to use the name in a court battle. Civilization: Call to Power(1) was the last game that they could use it.

Hi
I just got the latest issue of Pc gamer (Britians best selling Pc magazine).

It gave it Call to Power 2 88%- "Leapfrogs Civ 2 and is crowned the new king of the genre. Utterly enthralling"

I just got it for Christmas and I think it is better! There are a lot more diplomatic options to choose from and there is a more extensive range of units and governments than Civ 2.

Also it allows multiple unit combate which is great because you no longer have to attack a city with each unit on its own!

No offence taken!

I think these reviews may be to harsh. It seems that alot of Civ 2 players have played it too much and are not willing to give Call to power 2 a chance!

I have given the first part a chance , but it
failed to convince me . Here are some of my
reasons :
A CTP game will take weeks to finish while
i can finish a civ II game sometimes on one
weekend .
If you build cities in the early game the best place is on an island surrounded by water in CTP , i find that annoying .
The comp opponents play all in a similar and unimiginative way no suprises at all , true
Civ II lacks good comps too but look at SMAC
how it could be done .
The fighting system is crap .
The wonder movies suck , if i build a wonder
i dont want to see a two second something on
the screen .
I have to admit that there are some good features too :
you dont need any settlers to build roads .
you may trade goods between your towns and build a monopol .

I assume CTP2 is not very different from the
first part (I indeed didnt give it a chance)
that is maybe wrong , but i doubt it .

I have played Civilization and got Call To Power 2 today yet I have haven't played Test of Time or Call To Power 1. It's definitely changed a lot since Civilization, it's much more detailed. I haven't got much into the game yet however it seems like a game that takes a long time to play. Too bad I can't get the map of Earth as a battlefield.

Good things:
Borders
Diplomacy
No settlers needed to build roads

Bad things:
Graphic slow the game down-take 3 minutes just to end a turn
Not enough units
Stacking units
No "top 5 cities" and demographics

Yes i agree that once you have build Globesat it does slow down alot. Also it would be nice to be able to see the top 5 cities. I think though that unit stacking is a good idea because it stops 1 slightly higher tech level unit beating all of your 5 troops because they have to attack separately

I've been playing the game for a couple of weeks now, and I like the game. I stand by my earlier statements that it will not be 'great' like Civ2, but it is still a good game.

One of the biggest problems a lot of gamers have with the game is that the AI civs are too passive, making a military conquest game very easy.

I think to like the other victory routes, so the game is still fairly challenging.

Tripa, reading your last post made my eyes feel like two piss-holes in a snowbank. We have this thing in English called puctuation. You should try using it. Also, since around 1750, Webster and others like him have standardized how we spell English words, and you might want to join the rest of us, because frankly, it is difficult to decipher your rants, and the difficulty is 50-50 spelling and puctuation(as in the total lack thereof).
