Barbarian Activity too high?

I have played the newest BtS version of GEM. Excellent! Great Work!

However, I find the Barbarian activity to be too high. Is that a general impression or is it just me? It's ok to have Barbarians, but does it have to be so many?

Is there an easy way to turn it down without turning it down altogether?

Yes, If you select 'custom scenario', you'll notice 'raging barbarians' is ticked. Just untick it.

As a sidenote to this: Maybe it would be best to disallow barbarians from founding cities in the later start scenarios, if that is possible (like 1860 AD and 1940 AD).

This often leads to cities being randomly founded in obscure locations (mostly north of the arctic circle), and the AI occupies itself with capturing these near-useless cities instead of focusing on its vicinity.
