Barbarian farming for XP

OK, so the scenario is continents on small, vanilla, me playing as Ghengis, so after using an early keshilk rush i complety wiped out the egyptians leaving me as the only civilization on the whole continent. After scouting the continents perimeters i found a distant barbarian city. Now this is where the strategy comes in or so i thought, the idea was to blockade the city with a handful of keshilks and every time the city spawned an archer my most experienced keshilk already with 3 promotions would kill the archer thus gaining enough XP to allow me to build the pentagon, heroic epic, as well as beefing up my units. However after repeating this process about 10 times my keshilk did not seem to gain any XP to kick it into a level 5 unit, why is this????? can someone please explain. Should this strategy work i think it would be a great way of "farming" XP. Thanks all, i love the forum and im 100% addicted to this game

I believe xp from animals caps at 5 and xp from barb units caps at 10 xp.

Theres a way to get around this. I asked this on the mod forum. I posted the thread. You should find it cuz I'm lazy. Something about, simple mod. Or something, idr ><

Something about opening a xml file in wordpad, finding "experience" on animals and barbs max limit. I set it to 1000 each.

The barbs are good for training your early troops to 10XP. Later you can turn out 7XP units with a barracks if you run the Theology and Vassalage civics.

Create a military city with a barracks, stable, drydock and West Point (when you get a level 6 unit) with the Heroic Epic. Build the Pentagon in a high production city and you can crank out 13XP units.

Awesome cheers for that, so it seems that the game is designed to prevent you from gaining too many XP from barbs, o well, looks like ill go to war. by the way i meant to say west point and not the pentagon in the original post.

If you are alone on your continent you can get extra exp points and GG points with Privateers without declaring war. They can attack the Ai and get mucho experienco pointos....that is spanish

Well, you can still get all your troops to 10XP which is pretty good too. That's City Raider III for city attackers, Combat II + specific anti-unit promotion for in-the-field defenders, Combat I + Medic II for your medics, etc.

By the way, XP you get from killing barbs don't count for Great General generation either.
