Barbarian Heroes

So, I've played many games with both FFH and FF but not a single time I met a barb Heroes different from the always - present (in order of appearence):

-Orthus
-Acheron
-Tum Tum (not really always)

Plus Mokka when Illians are in and survive the time enough for their ritual.

It happened to me ONE time to have the Sailor Dirge to wander around (but it was in a quite old patch).
Is this related to some environment requirements to be met? (such as you should have a set portion of terrain to be forest to spawn the big gorilla?)
Isn't it possible to have a setting that let spawn ALL the barb heroes in a game?

EDIT: Now, I don't really remember if the Sailor Dirge is a Lanun Hero or is a barb hero...but I'm pretty sure there WAS a barb hero which was a ghost ship or something...
 
I've only ever seen Orthus, Acheron, and Mokka.
And yeah, you're right in that Sailor's Dirge is the barbarian hero. I think the Black Ark is the Lanun hero (or, I possibly just made that name up in my head).
 
I may be mistaken but the "Hero" promotion only is on Orthus.

All the others are certainly "World Units", but not necessarily having all the free XP gain that Orthus enjoys. That includes Acheron and Tum Tum who are I think guaranteed to appear under the right conditions (time and tech?), and a variety of other event based ones, which I think applies to critters like the Leviathan, Margalard (big monkey, however spelled), or Sailor's Dirge.

'Hero' is frequently used not only to describe units with the Hero promotion.
But yes, Orthus is functionally the only barbarian world unit that starts with the Hero promotion.

TumTum's only requirement is supposedly a barbarian city in which it can be built, and the Trade technology. I still have never seen him.
But then there's other, 'barbarian' units such as Leviathan, Gurid, Margalard, and Sailor's Dirge. They are completely random and I have never, ever, seen any of them.
 
I believe Orthus (spawns), Acheron (created when the barbs build the vault) and Tum Tum (hired, req's trade) are the only units of this type I have met. Sailor's Dirge hasn't shown itself since .33 or perhaps .34, and I believe it is not in the game any more...

The Lich from the Sepulcher is also a rarespawn now...

I've seen TumTum a few times. He's always worthless. What's the point of a 10str unit with no starting promotions and no cool effects being a world unit? He's exactly as strong as an Apprenticeship iron champion, and usually shows up later because the barbs take forever to get to Trade.

Now if TumTum had the hero promotion and showed up at my doorstep with Combat V, I might be slightly scared of him. Probably not, though, because his base strength is just not very high compared to the units he's fighting. At Combat V, he would be 20str and would be attacking 8str Combat I champions in cities with some cultural defense (and that's the absolute BEST case for him, where the player somehow has no T4 units yet). He could MAYBE kill two champions, but is no threat to actually take a city. Compare that to a standard Orthus attack, where Combat V Orthus is at 12 str and is attacking your 3str warriors in cities with low cultural defense. Tumtum needs a LOT of boosting to be an interesting feature.
 
I saw Gurid in Barbarian Assault. And Dirge spawned in a recent game of mine. Haven't seen Margalard in ages.

Acheron is an unit the barbarians can build. He has no tech requirements and costs negligible (25 iirc) hammers. If any barbarian city ever survives for more than a few turns, he will show up. His hoard is immediately created in the city that built him.
 
Never saw the apes, Leviathan, or Mary Morbus or any other rare units like that. Well, except the scenarios; I believe it's a hard-coded spawn for Gurid in that one though, not random. Sailor's Dirge only ever appeared once in an MP game at that, which was very heavy on water. Acheron of course appears all the time, and TumTum is created in about 50% of my games since there's usually some area with a couple barb cities which makes it to the late game on larger maps. In general I would like to see more of all of them.
 
I have never seen any hero but Acheron and Orthus... I did remember Mary Morbus... but in my memories, the event was for me and thus Mary Morbus too. I was playing Calabim then. Am I making up memories?

After reading all that things about the other heroes, I would very like to see them in game... Hmm, might have to tweak some values...

Since he can only be obtained from exploring the it, he is rare (and he's not even the real Barbatos:() I miss his game-destroying power, it was a classic. When he was around, FfH had to have a new (and ripped) motto.

Yep! I miss Barbatos too! I remember an epic fight to get the Broken sepulcher. The lich Hemah (another great feature been removed, IMHO) fought Barbatos the Lich in a deadly magic fight! lol, thanks to that fight Hemah earned the title of Lichlord!

I've never had a problem taking out Orthus. In older games, he never even appeared until i had axemen with several promos, more than enough to take him down with little to no losses. The only time I've even seen him recently was in a Ljos. game, and he just holed up in a barb city (which i think he took from the Hippus) and i had gilden take him out.

I've had Tum Tum appear in a few games, but I've only seen him once, and I did't fight him.

thank god the red dragon is bound to his city! is there anything that frees him to rampage around?

the barbs sure are fun in this mod, and i wish the barb system in FFH were standard in civ4 (but ortheus shouldnt spawn of course)

You can disable Orthus in custom game options.
 
i know but i dont want to disable him - i just want another 50 turns or so XD

more for the AI sake than my own. (well my own too because i like the AI to perform well)

Huh? Orthus always spawns on turn 75 adjusted for gamespeed.
You can change it in CvEventManager.py, search for Orthus.
 
...Well, anyway, does anyone know WHY only Orthus and Acheron show up in every game and HOW to make show the other BARBARIAN HEROES (which actually was the original purpose of my thread...;))?????
 
Adjust the chances of including Margalard/Gurid/Leviathan/Sailor's Dirge in EventTriggerInfos to be 100% instead of 20%, you could also set the weight to -1 to be ABSOLUTELY sure that they will spawn (if anyone goes that way in the tech tree).
