Barbarians capture cities.

Heretic Cata, may be formaljuristic you are right. But...Tot Nolimits was also a hack in the exe, that was tolerated by the publisher. Firaxis left Civ 3 with an unfinished Beta-patch and for a lot of years they did nothing to fix it. This is not the best service for long-year customers, especially if all these nice things are public for a lot of years, like you said Heretic Cata.

With the release of Civ Chronicles we contacted 2K_Jason (Take Two) about fixes for Civ 3. Until now, there was no response that this fixes will come anytime in the future. So I hope, that this will be tolerated, too. Firaxis officials often point out, that they read these forums. Here would be a good point to say something in the next time about the future of Civ 3. If Firaxis wants to do a modders edition for C3C, than it´s wonderful, I´will pay it. May be in that case they should hire Skyer2 to help them and let him participate on the sellings for his help.;)

Civinator, I think you are right. But I also think that as it doesn't encourage piracy in any way and we respect the license of the game, we shouldn't worry about this not being legal. I don't think that affecting the .exe file is something to be considered piracy so against the law.

Just my thoughts.

@Civinator: I hope you are right. :)

But then comes the question: why all the fuss with releasing the code for civ3 ?

But if they give us the tacit aproval to what we're doing here then it's all ok. :)

(sorry for the threadjack btw)

Getting the source code allows much easier and more detailed changes in the game. It also implies that they won't be able to sell the game any more.

It would be wonderful. :D But for now we have to do with this. :)

When Activision released the source code for Call to Power 2 they kept it so that it was illegal to change it to not require the CD to play, other than that modders could pretty much do as they pleased. In this case the source code is still useless to anyone without an original CD, but very useful to the modders.

A law student's opinion:
At first Firaxis should tell us, if they won't tolerate this or not. Until then we do have enough hints they know about this and will tolerate this, too. As they did in the past with some mods and as they say, they visit us here.
Also most of you is told not to buy a CD with game and (propably) a guide, but a license. From German Civil Code this must be known to you by buying the software. With other words, either the seller must tell you or the package must contain such a hint. That is seldomly done. So all license agreements not on the box are really nothing worth, as they are conditions only known to you after buying the software. However you're not allowed to make pirate copies and sell them. Nevertheless own copies must be allowed. Laws, which atre against this, are against the civil right of ownership, at least as many companies do not have copies of software several years old. To use them you need the CD/ DVD. So copies of them, if they are broken or lost, of course you have to have bought the software, should have to be sent to you shortly with only limited costs (mail). As this is not common, a law forbidding own copies or No CD cracks, is against the constitution at least of Germany.
I know, this is only my personal opinion, but if I had trouble with that, I would argue in this way. Although the laws are different in other countries, the argumentation is not. If it will be successful I can not guarantee as on the high seas and off courts you're in God's hand.
Just a juristical remark.

Please remember, that this is a thread about Barbarians capture cities and nothing else. If someone here want to discuss quite different themes, please open your own thread for it.

Skyer2, I can understand, if all these posts (including one from me) annoy you and you don´t want to post here in the next time. I want to say you a big thank you for all you did for us. You achieved such a lot very positive things for Civ 3 in such a short time. :worship: If there should be really some problems -what I don´t believe- please let me know. I will try to help. :)

Men, go here www.hexworkshop.com

Download or buy this ****. Then edit your .exe file and replace strings I have you on strings I gave you:) That would make patches work 100%

Btw, I don't guarantee, that barbarian patch works properly. By the waym it works - but there are some strange crashes in the game - may be because of that. So, better try another patches:)

195421: 83 FE 20 - Shows the number of civs, listed in the start menu, 32 in this case.

Yes, but that will not add anycivilization in the game:) Just makes it close to solution.

Men, changes should me interesting for me also. >31 civs is not interesting, because it is useless and hard to make. What for do you need 50+ civilizations, if only 31 are available in the game(or 16, I don't know)

It certainly is not useless! Ask anyone on this forum! :)

How about increasing the limit on buildings then? You can only have 255 and this limit has been reached by numerous mods/scenarios.

Believe me- I have no trouble to find civilizations to place on a map :) 62 civs are a minimum :p

Lol- well, if you should ever feel like doing something like that, please make it large :)
