[R&F] Based on the new features - which civilizations and leaders should be introduced in R&F?

The two civs we now know were clearly featured in the trailer.
Clearly the Mongols is one of the civs that will be in

But what about the Black Death and Navigation clue? I was thinking Genoa for a second but that would be hard. Italy before Rome were included with Turin as a capital and Victor Emmanuel as a leader. I think there are some possible scenarios there with France, Austria and Italy. Unification seems like a good possibility for game play with the new loyalty and free city concept.

I figure we have these possibilities, based on the trailer
Mongols
Rome alt-leader
Italy or some variation there-of
Portugal or Spain alt-leader (Nau-type ship the girl sails)
Helmut Kohl - German alt-leader (super duper unlikely)

Portugal and Netherlands both in the same expansion? Which European Civs will be in the second one then? :p

Croatia, Liechtenstein, the Hanseatic League,...

I agree. I do not think Portugal is going to be here when the Dutch was included already.

but it is a female leader-focused expansion... maria would make sense... oh dear if they really did that, people would be furious, calling eurocentrism

I don't think every scene in the trailer is hinting at a new leader or Civ.
I definitely would not want a second leader for Rome. I think that scene was meant to represent the Classical era.
Plague scene could be hinting at some form of Italy, which I'm fine with.
The ship scene could just be some generic exploration scene instead of a real hint at Portugal. It doesn't seem like the expansion has much to do with exploration though.
Berlin wall scene is probably to do with loyalty and cities potentially leaving your Civ, than a hint at Helmut Kohl.

It is not going to be all female. And Maria is not the only female left in the world to fit in

I don't like Irene of athens she ripped out her son's eyes just because she couldn't accept being not the full leader byzantium.

Actually this revision of history was created in the Papal west who disdained Irene for not uniting with Charlemagne. Irene's son, Constantine, in Byzantine history was spoiled and unruly. He even aggressively tried to usurp control from Irene when no one wanted him. The court wanted him executed and the only thing Irene responded was to beg for mercy on her son. Some people say she chose the punishment, others said she did not. The courts cut his eyes out, but the Eastern world keeps Byzantine testimonies. The Papal west gave their own testimony that did not agree with the people who were there. It was the beginning of trying to delegitimize the true Roman Empire so that the new Holy Roman Empire could claim legitimacy since Irene would not unite with the Caroliginians.

Edit: 17:20 Constantine, Irene's son, brutal legacy

Edit: 24:00 Charlemagne considers marrying Irene to unite the Roman Empire

lol.

There are nine new leaders. Just because the only two we know of are women, doesn't make it a female-focused expansion.

We're likely looking at a 4F-5M rate, which would make sense.

Also regardless of whether Portugal are in or not (they should be), they've already reached their Female Leader quota in Civ 5. A return from João II or Enrique the Navigator would be welcome :-)

How many is too many European civs?

There are are three remaining European civs that are pretty much guaranteed: Netherlands, Portugal, and Celts. One has been confirmed so far. If they have all three, that would be three of the 8 civs, which is about what we would expect. But they will probably hold back at least one of those three for the next expansion. Portugal might be in, or it might be the Celts or there might be two or three European dark horses.

i'm not against many european civs i'm just saying a lot of people would protest if we have the netherlands and portugal now instead of maybe the inca and maya

I just hope they won't ignore other areas of the world when it comes to selecting Civs/leaders. It will be too many European Civs if they add Ukraine, Finland, Latvia, Belgium, Switzerland, Belarus, Slovenia. No offense to people from those countries. :D

There's probably going to be an inordinate amount of European civs, no matter their names. The protests are inevitable.

I'm Ukrainian and I'm not offended :DIn fact I think Ukraine doesn't deserve to be included in a Civilization game (unless at some point they go for including everyone). Kievan Rus, on the other hand... :D

I'd like to see Kievan Rus. Let's be honest, Europe has had a ton of cool civilizations. It's nice to get good representation from across the world but the most important thing is to have civs that are interesting to play.

Croatia, Liechtenstein, the Hanseatic League,...
Don't forget Andorra, Monaco, the Most Serene Republic of San Marino, Luxembourg--it's not Civ until those guys are added. :p

I would think the Byzantines would be even more guaranteed than the Celts, who I'd like to hold out some hope will finally get chopped into sensible, specific civs like the Gauls and/or Ireland...

If it is not Italy (with pestilence and navigation, and Columbus was Genoan) maybe the Ottomans. They are not European and deserve a spot. A female ruler is possible with them for sure. it could be Kösem Sultan

Yeah those archers looked strange to me. I couldn't really place the design.
