How do you see the odds before entering a battle? I'm about to attack a neighboring Barbarian village but I'm using a scrub warrior so I just want to check to be safe.

Thanks!

either hold down the alt key and hover the mouse, or
use the "g" for the pathing arrow and hold it over the enemy. If you like the odds, just click (and attack)

If you use the "right-click mouse" option in Civ4, you can left-click on the troops you want to use to attack, hold down the mouse button and drag the cursor over the enemy troops you want to attack for the odds. In fact, the "right-click mouse" option may not even be necessary. Remember that you cannot view the combat odds on a unit who is not the enemy (or at least it hasnt worked for me with a Civ I am at peace with).

Lol, i won a 2.1% battle the over day.
the battle odds system is very usefull.

Just holding the RMB over the enemy works fine in the default configuration - right-clicking issues a goto command, and holding it displays the path and combat odds.

What WOULD be a useful addition is a display of defensive odds - if this enemy were to attack me in his turn, what are the odds like?

Meh, I knew there was a battle odds system but I never figured out to use it, and was slowly getting to the point of starting to really need it. So, thanks to the original poster for asking the question, and thanks for the people that answered it!

With the right click option watch out. If you see the battle odds are horrendous and you want to cancel the attack make sure to slowly move your mouse back because a sudden realease will send your troops flying to their gory gory death.

Yes I am mildly ******** for having that problem, but its worth mentioning if you do the same things as me.

Yeah, that would be nice.

I just do not believe the odds shown, or rather I find that the dice are almost always heavily loaded against me. I have just attacked a single Infantry unit, unpromoted, on a hill and not fortified (so strength 20+25% = 25) with two successive Tanks with Combat 2 (strength 28+20% = 33.6 each) and saw odds of about 85% in my favour for the first fight but lost my tank and reduced his strength in the process all the way down to an enfeebled 23 or so. Odds for second fight then over 90%; lost my second tank.Don't know if he had been damaged, because he vanished into the fog of war.
Other posters have reported losing fights at odds better than 100% and winning them at 0%. Poor me, I clearly come into the all-time-loser category.
